Does anybody know of where or how you can accurately measure how noisy a car is ?
I don't want to sign up for a track day, pay and then get refused entry due to exceeding the noise limit.
Thanks!
Martin.

They measure exhaust volume as part of the SVA test. Maybe a test centre would measure yours for you?

You can't accurately measure it is the short answer, except under strict scientific conditions, and, on the day, the noise marshal's decision will be final.
Best way to be sure to be under it is to be way under it. Noise doesn't equal power!

Turn up to a trackday where they are measuring & have run it through the meters, failing that I think Bookatrack will post you a db meter one for a deposit so you can fiddle at home.
Normal static measure is 0.5m from exhaust tip @ 3/4 of max rpm.
However most tracks have a driveby limit too which you cant measure without tracking there.

Unless you're completely unsilenced you'll probably be OK on an E30. As said, it's usually half metre at 4-5krpm, sometimes at 45degrees to the exhaust too. Mine passed 84dB at Bruntingthorpe easily and it's about as loud as you could drive on the road without being a right arsehole.
Maplin sell cheap noise testers, and bookatrack will post oyu one for a week for about £15 or so.
