Thats why i think you should just upgrade the mechanicals in yours fella. Finding a clean shell is getting harder and yours has all the mtech stuff as well, just get a donor car for the mechanicals, you know it makes sense!

thats a very tidy shell you have there, mine will be rust free soon but its took some hard graft.

one thing i have noticed on yours which seems to be common on all with pop out windows is that they rub the paint at the rearmost lower edge.would think its possible to adjust the window to prevent this though.

make sure your painter doesnt go out on the lash the night before the repaint

Looks like a no for now, really sorry to let you down on that mate, but like i said it wasnt for sale untill i found a decent 325i sport.

Been so messed about by a few sport sellers, and i mean totally messed about. (bss325i this isnt at all aimed at you, like i said in my wanted add its fine that you changed your mind, you were fine about it all). But the lies some people give you, why? They think buyers are stupid?

Thanks for the encouragement Barry, i think i may put a new engine in mine, im realising thats its hard to actually buy a car without endless stories and excuses from people!! Your thread is giving me ideas for my current car this summer, who knows!

Thanks for all the compliments guys, its really appreciated. The most irritating thing at the moment is not being able to get stuck into it because of only being able to squeeze it in around work. I'm one of those impatient types who want it all done yesterday but that doesnt mean im going to rush it! Here's a few more pics.

This may explain the lack of rot, dont think this amount of wax oil is originally applyed at the factory. Need to get those splash shields of and see if its coated in there as well.

This side is fully striped now bar the gutter trim.

UPDATE: Ordered all the badges and fitting clips today including the much debated 'M' badge and the car is now pretty much fully stripped and have now checked all the well known rust areas so here's so more pics.

I was at leat expecting to find the number plate light hole a bit scabby but not a hint of the dreaded rot!

Your thread motivated me. I jacked my car up high today and lowered it down on bricks. I have removed all wheels, m-tech trim, inner plastic trim in the arches, and cleaned the whole car body out. The garage floor is covered in about half an inch of wet mud, but there is only 1 rust area i have found (at the bottom of the offside front wing). Will be buying it a new wing now !

Glad to have motivated you, it makes sense to keep it and preserve what you've got! I'm going to flood the car in waxoil when i finnished the cleaning. Are you keeping yours now?

Because a) it may catch the respray bug and b) I'll keep on noticing all the little dings and marks that i always said I'd leave alone.

Thing is with mine is that it's at the point now (or will be when the new heads on it) where the only thing I could really do next is a repaint. All the suspensions mint, the interior is finished when the carpets in, the hoods done, alloys are done, exhaust is done, tyres are all matching f1's, front valance has now been painted since April guildford meet, looms rewrapped, chromes all good. Needs a screen but thats on the insurance cards. Theres literally nothing left to do except paint it which I always said I wouldn't do as I wanted it as original as it could be ........... or do I?

If anything it should be the other way round! I've got the wheels and tyres, drivers seat, engine bay suspension etc to do before it looks as good as yours! Fresh paint on yours would be ok, it would still look original but mint unlike when the interior is retrimed where as the advantage with yours is that it look original but mint!

I was just lucky, i started a new job and offered to buy it when they needed the money for another project (in the pic below.) What your doing is comendable, rebuilding a car a lot worse than some which would have been broken for spares.

Looking good mate. That made my car, new roundels. I didn't change my 325 badge. May well order one when I find a mint bootlid in white. Mine has a few pressure dents along the top edge where people have insisted on pushing it shut!! Nice also to see the flat M badge as well and not the later curved one.
