I'm about to start prepping my car for paint.
Whats the best tape to use to mask off for details like stripes? (paint on paint)
I've used the normal paper type tape before and sometimes it doesnt get a perfect line, spray paint seems to seep under the edges.
Have seen people use plastic tape but I'm not sure what it is... looks like normal insulating tape... is it?

Masking tape.
Best tape to use for paint.
Just make sure the tape is pressed down firmly and theres no gaps.
That should give you a straight line.

Try and get some wide tough and sticky masking tape. If its wide and stiff it will be far easier to lay straight.
I havent seen anyone use any plastic tape. I would have thought it would stretch out of shape quite easily?

Thats the stuff.
Oakey, for laying out detail like flames etc they need it to stretch out of shape, but by the looks of it, they just use a thin (5mm wide) version of this stuff.
I only want it for a straight line but to get a straight line over curves and detail like the bonnet has I'll need the masking off to be not straight, if that makes sense...

You know its contagious?
If you put matt black on the new one, its only a matter of time before you start attacking those nasty chrome bumpers on your cab...

So true.
One day I'll have all that stuff, but I wouldnt waste it on an e30. A '49 mercury coupe in candy blue would do the job.
Cliff, you've got me... I have 25 cans of luminous pink ready to unleash on my car... with a luminous green racing stripe for that extra 20bhp.
