that`ll be the release handle for the hood cover on a car with manual hood iirctailoutcharlie wrote: why do they put door handles in the back of cabs? what the hell are you supposed to open???
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
again people on here want to knock down prices on e 30's why? £4k or approximate seems reasonable if the car is what it says it is. After all convertibles command a premium (although I am no fan of them) and really good e30's are getting very rare. This will not drive anything like your average e30 and indeed getting your average one 100% right will probably cost more than buying this. If you are happy to drive a £1000 banger e30 fine but don't confuse it with a mint example which is a desirable classic still great to drive and worth a decent price tag.

Nil poi my friend! At the very same auction every other car was a shock! R reg Corsa (just a 1.2 merit) going for 1500 quid, even 50 quid heaps were going for 300 quid!!
Auctions arent the same as they were. Got to be there all day long to pick up an odd bargain....they dont just fall in your lap like they used to

Who want to knock down the prices of e30's not me i'm willing to pay what i think is fair for the car and i don't think its worth it.pnd wrote:again people on here want to knock down prices on e 30's why? £4k or approximate seems reasonable if the car is what it says it is. My e30 is a late 90 on an h and just done 80k the car is mint and had an easy life i bought it a while ago and thought it was too good to be true, a year later i'm still waiting on something to go wrong with it. When i sell her after i find my next e30 i won't even be looking for £1600.
All still original, toolkit, torch, owners manual, jack etc 320i se model and i'm her second owner FBMWSH
And hopefully she'll be gettin a respray in the summer

Oh and why are 1st aid kits a selling point. The crap in them will be useless after 17 years!!!

Looks nice and I can't think of a better recommendation for a car then if it's been serviced at its owner's own BMW dealership (unless his mechanics hate him!) Also the fact that it's totally standard must increase it's value. I wouldn't pay £4k personally though...

£3k tops?
Around £3500. What you have to remember is that the majority of E30 Convertibles are shagged out, councilled up turds. You cannot really put a price on a car which is immaculate and original as it left the factory.
Is it worth 4 grand? Not quite but at that money you can forget about depreciation if you keep it nice. Look at what some ghastly MGB roadtser is worth now and tell me a mint 320i Convertible isn't worth £4k.
As for the 36'000 mile 318i and 'bargains not falling into your lap like they used to', you should have put your phone away and got out the £1800 to buy it - there was a healthy £1000 profit in that car because you just know it'll be up for £2995 as we speak.............

Just because it says warranted miles doesn't mean it is correct.
It is up to the buyer to disprove the mileage claim in many auctions and not the other way round.
2 stamps in the service book arn't going to back it up much
Unless that car has 'every' mot with it from new or some other form of proof that those miles are correct i would just assume it is incorrect.

Those three words on it's sheet "sold as seen" always worry me about cars like that. Though I suppose at 36k with proof, not much can be wrong with it...Andyboy wrote: As for the 36'000 mile 318i and 'bargains not falling into your lap like they used to', you should have put your phone away and got out the £1800 to buy it - there was a healthy £1000 profit in that car because you just know it'll be up for £2995 as we speak.............

Didn't see the two stamps bit, well spotted. That would make me a bit more worried! Surely it would have been dealer serviced for at least a few years?SPADGE wrote:

All cars of that age will be 'sold as seen' mate it depends on the auction as to what their cut-off point is.Firefly2005 wrote:Those three words on it's sheet "sold as seen" always worry me about cars like that. my next e30 will be a cab but i am anticipating between £2k - £3k for a good one.
if i want a fixer upper (not councilled) i think £1500 should get me an OK one... is this not right?

e30s are just the right age for entering the "classic" world. People who dreamed of one when they were a teenager are now in their thirties with a bit of cash. This move from "old" to "classic" will probably be lead by the cabby and has arguably already been made by the M3. In the world of "classics" excellent examples are worth far more than "very good". Low milages, traceable histories and few owners are highly valued. £4k may be over twice the value of a "very smart" 320 cabby but to the bloke buying one for a weekend toy to sit in the garage of his £300k house doen't think "twice as much" he thinks "only an extra 2k for the best", especially as it will undoubtedly hold its value.
so I don't think £4k is too silly.

..... Or is my eyesight failing me?THE CAR IS AS IT LEFT THE FACTORY 18 YEARS AGO AND HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR DAY 1 ONWARDS BY THE SAME LOCAL BMW DEALER AND HAS 2 SERVICE BOOKS TO SHOW.

About right I think. It's only when there are very few left that values will rocket. I can recall going into breakers yards with my Old Man in the seventies and seeing rows of decrepit Mark 11 Jaguars when they were just a thirsty, tatty old car nobody wanted. Everything that came after the Mark 11 was better in the way an E36 is better than an E30 but they never really caught the imagination - nobody robbed banks with an XJ6. There are cases (Mini Cooper S and Escort Mexico Mark 1 are just two) where there are just not enough left which is why a minter is worth a solid £10-15'000 with a queue of buyers. The RS1600 has already breached the 20 grand barrier with ease.ChrisBarns wrote:e30s are just the right age for entering the "classic" world. Forget all the butchered/tatty rubbish - a really nice original top end E30 (no 316i's then) kept nice will be a good investement - a nice car that you can get every penny back for and maybe make a bit on top.

thats the add for the car at the top of the thread not the 35k at the auctions
Could it be thats it's 2 stamps short of a FSH?!
So is a resto on an 119k milege loads of owners E30 a waste of time then? even if it's a rare model cos i'll get the alpina C2 going again 2moro if so and i'll just drive the thing!

Used to do some collection/Repo work for a local auction to me , Had a few bargains out of there as well , Sold as seen is a common thing , In the small print on some auctions it will state all vehicles must be transported from the sale also
Each auction will differ how the mileage is warranted also

Wooo Hooooo!!!! I'm laughing then! this thing only cost me a bag of sand! Mind you I have already chucked around £600 at it to make it as it is now, still a bargain though!!Andyboy wrote: About right I think. It's only when there are very few left that values will rocket.
