i remember readin a post some time ago about brake upgrades. Well i am at the stage of needing to upgraed.
i'm after company names numbers or websites to look on. ideally some idea of price too. i am running the e21 335 engine out of a 5 series. the car was a 2.5.
the other ting to remember is i also spend a bit of time wit the car on the track.
price is an issue as usuall. i dont really wanna spend a grand.
cheers

I'll be getting the wilwood kit this month hopefully.
Do have to check a couple of things though, like is it only for the M3 and will my wheels fit it.
Now that wilwood sell dust sealed calipers, I really can't understand why you'd buy anything else! They're like Ԛ£80 each or something crazy like that
The only problem with the Brembo's is getting them to fit. I spent ages measuring to fit 12" discs and 4-pots to the GT6 and even longer machining bits to hold it all together.
For my money, I think that Ԛ£400+VAT is pretty good for a bolt on solution, especially when you look at the prices of AP kits

If thats for the wilwood kit then yeah its good value, but from what Ive seen its not quite bolt on.Turbo-Brown wrote:For my money, I think that Ԛ£400+VAT is pretty good for a bolt on solution, especially when you look at the prices of AP kits
I was looking at them in a Rally Design catalogue and it seems you need to make up some mounting brackets for the calipers. It cant be that difficult to do and would still be cheaper than the likes of AP etc, but it has stopped me buying them.
This was about a 18 months ago now, so the kits might have changed to include brackets, but it might be worth checking.

I think a lot of people recommend against drilled discs for track use because they are prone to cracking. I don't have any experience with that myself though, just what I have read. I think slotted should be ok though, I have slotted and dimpled discs and go to the track a bit and I haven't had any problems. If someone really wants drilled discs then I think it is only Brembo that casts the discs with the holes already there, not drilled in after, so they would be the ones to go for.bullitt wrote:And a set of Drilled/Vented discs

I'm pretty sure the Ԛ£400+VAT does include everything. I bought, years ago, a wilwood brake kit for (again) the GT6 which came with calipers, discs and milled aluminium brackets plus fixings.
I subsequently decided to treble the power and torque output of the engine so I though that a fairly extreme brake upgrade might be in order so I never fitted them

Click here for the products for BMW from Rally Design. The Midilite caliper is the one to go for as its dust sealed for road use.shelle-smokeahama wrote:can ya point me on the site where to look at the whole kit???
Midilite Caliper
If you do contact them, I would be interested to know what replacement pads and discs can be used, other than their own and if you do get the mounting brackets with the kit.

Im a bit stuck at the moment actuallyshelle-smokeahama wrote: howc far ya got wit the conversion???
Both my exhaust manifold and inlet plenum are locked in the fabricators workshop whilst he is on holiday
I still dont know if either will fit or how good a job he has done on the exhaust manifold.
It is my fault as I forgot he was going away, but its just annoying that I cant do anything about it.
Other than that, its just little odds and sods to sort out to get it on the road. Its just difficult to find the time at the moment, what with one thing and another, oh and the weather!!
All the work is happening on my driveway, so when its raining the work stops.
I dont know why I didnt go for the 3.5 M30 conversion really, I think I just liked the idea of the S50.
Still, the early part of the conversion went too well, so Im destined for some set backs and theyve arrived.
Ah well, it will work out in the end...

Yeah, Ive spoken to John on the phone.
Seems like a sound bloke, but I think they are very busy at the moment and Ive heard John was in some accident or something.
I probably wouldnt take it any where to be done anyway. I cant afford the labour for one, but also its a project I wanted to do myself and Im trying to do it on a budget. So I dont really mind if it takes a little longer.
