Hello.

I'm going to get some front discs/pads for my touring...

I've heard good things about ATE power discs, so I'm probably going to go for them from ECP.

However, it's a bit confusing choosing the pads. They are for fast road/trackday (including the 'Ring) use.

I am torn between Mintex C-Tech - from ECP but they don't say if they are 1144, 1155 or 1166. Does anyone know, I called but they didn't even know.

OR

EBC REDStuff (ceramic) - Heard good things about these.

OR

Ferodo DS2500/3466 - Karan says they're good?! Anyone else? Where can I get these from?

I'm gonna use Castrol SRF fluid :)

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

:)

Standard discs and DS2500s or Mintex 1155s. Drilled and grooved discs being better stoppers is a myth.

(lol)

Ermmm.....I would choose the Mintex, but I don't know which ones they are, my guess is that they are 1144's but I'd prefer 1155's

So do I pay Ԛ£85 for RedStuff, or go for the Mintex?

I can't find any suppliers of Ferodo? Can't be that hard surely.

Ferodo: Circuit Supplies 01525 385888.

Red Stuffs are generally used on out-and-out race cars - as in Touring Cars. They'll be impossible for normal road use, but spit your teeth out of the front of your head once warmed up.

EBCs generally leave a little to be desired compared to Ferodo or Mintex.

If it's Mintex, make sure they're 1155s.

In the end, it's all down to your driving style and what feels good to you.

Good advice, Thanks....

The new RedStuff ceramic stuff is apparently better from cold than the old ones...

I will to get hold of DS2500's I think, for the front and back.

Thanks... :)

ok i just phoned that number

i spoke for a while to him and ill be going for ds 3000 again :D

it all depends wat youl be doing in the car
he said ds2500 are better for on road / track. but
i want hard core on a budget. so and he said if you find one u like stick to it. and i love ferodo.

he didnt like ebc and nor do i . i regard them like a saxo or a corsa.

ive got groved disks but only 20 grove . good for hard core but not road as such theres not a great difference . but hes told me how to bed pads in as this is the biggest difference on race/fast pads ,

the pagids are very good for there use but are a bout 40 quid more.

the ds 3000 are Ԛ£111 to your door and the ds2500 are a few pound cheaper !
i done a set of new pads in 35 ish laps so i recon i would of killed a set of ds2500 in a bout 30

the class a racers on ds3000 do there pads in 20 in donnington! 8O

hes up for a group buy. if you lot are

that place is very helpfull i phoned after hours , just incase and he ansewerd and talked for 20 mins , giving really good imformation

Ok....so....

Demon Tweeks 'online' don't list ds2500 for the front, only the rear.

I'm up for a front pad group buy Gus...But sooner rather than later! :)

So a good set-up would be...

FRONT - Ate power discs front, with ferodo ds2500 pads

REAR - OE Discs with ds2500 pads

Castrol SRF Fluid?

What do you reckon?

:)

Depends what you're doing with the car. Track/race pads and drilly-groovy discs are a nightmare on road for normal use.

But funny things, brakes: just sold both my track day cars. On the Elise the brakes wouldn't slow a pedal bike in day-to-day use, but they'd stop a 747 after four or five laps. But I had a 205 GTi (trackday-ed up) as well, and that would stop instantly from cold on 1155s.

Regardless, though, if you're doing track days the best way to go faster is to get instruction - costs about the same as a set of pads and will take anything between five and fifteen seconds off your lap time.

Yeah, I appreciate the fact about instruction and that, but it's a good reminder.

I want to uprate my pads and discs AND fluid, so that I have a decent set-up which doesn't fade under heavy use.

I'll be using the car on the road, but on the track also. Including the Nurburgring in August (providing all goes to plan). So I need a compromise.... :?

Pagid Fast Road Pads were good in my old 318iS 4 cyl wrongness. They worked well from cold, altho i heard reports that theyd pack up a bit quick once you started to lean on the middle pedal a bit...

i loved the ds 3000s i cant say i noticed the difference between cold n hot . i just know that the 3000s were better feel from cold than the standard pads in there now witch are rubbish feel!

my first ring trip was in a honda integra type r and it was driven well and had ds25000 on standard disks and it stoped like it was hitting a train head on!

i would be up for getting ds 2500 but i recon ill do more laps on the 3000
i dont care wat my cars like on the road .

id say to you dave 2500
i didnt bother with the rear, as standard was good enogh for me. but u could always go ferodo premium at rear(they have less fade in them than the standard pads) i noticed a difference in my volvo on the front brakes ( they would get hot and fade but i could still push hard and stop well and fast where as b4 i wouldnt stop!)
the premiums should be about 20 ish for rear .

ill be getting ds 2500 for the golf mk2 iam taking to the ring (has ebc in now)yuk it doesnt have groved disks so i think that wuld be a good setup

i need some pads in the next week . so we should set up a group buy soon if your up for that i dont know how to do it but could try and set up an e30 zone discount thing!
all this talk between the two pads

they do a ds3000 + and a ds3000 enduro lol but ill forget them for now
ive no idea about mintex or padgid and ebc i dont know either

I was speaking to a friend who does a lot of trackdays in his road car and he did not recommend SRF at all as it is much more hydroscopic than normal brake fluid. It is designed to only last for a short time in a race car before being replaced so is not really any good for a road car unless you plan on changing it very regularly.

He recommended a top brand DOT4 fluid as a good all rounder for both fast road and trackday use.

Just my 2 penneth!

Sorry, guys. I think I got the last set of DS2500s from Circuit Supplies.

Fluid: try Castrol Response Super DOT 4, oh, and Goodridge steel braided hoses.

Cheers for that Skip, I'll be using it for a trip to the Nurburgring in the touring once it's ready, and I'll change it if it's performance gets worse.

ECP do Mintex C-Tech pads, but they couldn't tell me if they are 1144's or 1155's.

I call Mintex and tried to explain the problem, but the lady on the other end of the phone had no clue what I was on about and just said 'You need 1144's' Idiot.

So I've got nowhere, could be an idea to try these pads, but if they are 1144's they might not last very long on the track....I wanted 1155's ideally.

Or, EBC RedStuff (ceramic) but everyone says EBC are shit.

What about RedDot?

Any other recommendations, this is fcuking me off now... :x

Defo 1155s. 1144s are for Nova drivers late braking into McDonalds' Drive-Thru. With 1155s they wouldn't stop in time (no heat), with 1144s I suspect you'll stop stopping after a few hard laps.

It's not that EBC are crap, is just that Mintex and Ferodo are soooo good.

Never used Pagids, but trackdayers seem to like them.

Bloody Ferodo have discontinued E30 pads now apparently.

These Mintexs are probably gonna be 1144's although it doesn't list which ones they are, and neither ECP nor Mintex can give me an answer.

Do you think they'd be useless after a short while going fast even with ATE discs and Castrol SRF?
