Crusie Control Clutch Switch Fitting
Moderator: martauto
I never worked out where to attach the bracket when I fitted the cruise control last year and now I want to finish the job off properly.
Can anyone have a go at describing for me exactly where it goes? If anyone could be fagged to snap a photo that'd be really useful for me and others.
Thanks
Andy

Do you have to remove anything to fit it?
This hole and indent - what piece of metal are they in?
If you're saying the bracket is above the brake pedal then I presume the switch aligns to the left of the bracket if it's over the clutch pedal?
Thanks

you just need to remove the panel underneath the steering wheel and thats it
The switch cuts the cruise control off when u hit the brake pedal, or is it the clutch?! i can't remember hey ho

I never got around to fitting a bracket all I simply have done (RHD) is cable tie tightly the switch to the steering column shaft adjacent to the top pedal arm, so when you let you foot off the clutch it pushes the switch in and when you depress it the switch is released.
This set up has worked very well for the three years I have had the cruise control installed. I only have had to adjust it once after I had lent the car to Widge!!!

Any development on this? I also want to fit this and I actually have the factory fitting instructions printed out but the pix are pretty bad.
There's talk of drilling a hole out to 5.5mm and that the switch is supposed to be situated directly behind the clutch pedal.
I does also mention that if the brake, gas or clutch are engaged then the cruise cuts.
Which begs the question, why even bother to fot the clutch switch?

if the cruise control is on say at 70mph and you acclerate up to 80 say to overtake and then take your foot off the gas, when the car slows down to 70 the cruise will resume without you doing anything as you never turned it off.
Same situation again but you press the brake or clutch pedal the cruise automatically turns off.
get me?!

because if you dip the clutch with the cruise on itll blast the revs up especially if its accelerating strongly to keep the speed up.M16 wrote:Which begs the question, why even bother to fot the clutch switch?
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
Its a prick of a job to get the bolt in to the hole and screw it into the switch, I did it the other evening.
Reason its so hard is the clutch needs to be kept pressed at the same time so you have room to wiggle the switch around without the clutch trying to press in the button. I just put my head under neath and put the crapet up on the clutch and used it as a head rest while pushing it down. Got the switch in that way then.
Looking forward to try it out. Only thing is I need a colum switch as the stalk is broken on the one I have as the car was originally stolen and recovered before it reached its new home as a parts car for a mate. They broke the stalk while making a job on the steering lock
A new one is around a 100 quid I think so I'll have a look in a few scrap yards.
