im doing some homework and planning as ive always wanted to go down the 335i road.

my only consern is the wiring loom.

i no you use the 3.5 engine loom. cut the plug off get an new plug from stealers match up the wiring and away you go.

has anyone done this.

is there a diagram available to show what order the wires go in the plug.

The 3.5 loom will plug in and the engine will run but there are a few wires that need swapping around to get every thing to work. There is no need to cut the plug off.

The earlier e34 had the correct sized plug to go straight into the e30 socket.
Its only the later ones usually with 'fly by wire' throttle's that will have the wrong plug.

the only other reason for plug cutting / swapping is if you have an early E30 with the square type plug. i've not owned one for years though so i can't remember what they look like!

my 1988 E32 735i loom just plugged into my 1990 325i one if that helps.

I used a 1989 325i with a 1989 E34 535i manual donor.

The plugs matched and the engine ran.
The only wire mods I had to do was the green and black wire on the M30 loom (from pin 15 I think) put to the smallest spade terminal on the starter motor (or else the heater fan won't work and electric windows only open with the door open).
Also, on the E30 c101 plug, the black and white wire (pin 3) needed to be swapped for the black and purple wire (pin8) for the economy ( :? ) swingometer guage below the rev counter to work.

It's easiest to start with an E34 / E32 engine as E28 / E23 engines have a coolant pipe in the way at the back of the engine and the sump and oil pick up pipe will need to be changed to the later type to clear the E30 cross member.

Interesting about pin 3 - my rev counter works, but not the swingometer gauge. Any ideas?

Sorry for the hijack!

Yeah, swap pin 3 with pin 8.

I found it easier to pull the rubber boot right back, cut the wires, swap and solder them rather than remove the pins.

that's why i'd like a M3 instrument cluster instead! no flappy-bad-economy-reminder gauge!

re brakes, i found the 325i ones (mine had mintex pads and ebc dics) too easy to cook. i'm running the 280mm WMS 4 pot kit now.
