I've reset all my tappets so they are spot on but i still get the annoying noise at all engine temeratures and i'm now resigned to the fact that it must be the cam or the rocker thats worn. How can i measure the cam for wear ? :thumb:

how loud is the tapping? if its quiet thats normal. High milers get worm camshafts though. Are u sure it ain't your injectors?

But more to the point what engine is it fool?!

Well as you can't adjust the M40/42 engine and i wouldn't waste my time with an M10 have a guess!
I'll give you a clue as you don't seem to have one,---- E30zone----

No mate all clean and tidy.I've had a stethescope on the injectors and they all appear fine. What i was after is the exact dimension's of the cam eccentric's so i can measure them to see if i can get away with just replacing the rockers for now and worry about the cam later.
But i don't know how you measure them, circumferance? Height/Width?
I'm lost, Any ideas? :?

What you will find normally on the cam lobe or where the rocker runs a long the cam is that it will not wear the whole width it will wear a track.

So you can compare the worn/unworn parts of the lobe.

This is a standard M30 cam with apx 130k miles on it.It is generally in good condition bar a little bit of wear on two lobes. This lobe is 0.3mm smaller in the worn track.

I'm guessing if it was worn 1mm or more it would be scrap ???

Cheers Andy thats what i was after :thumb:

Although thats a different engine, just out of interest which two eccentrics were worn on your one? And could that have been caused by a blocked outlet on the spray bar, if the m50 has one?

I think you are right, one of the holes in the spray bar might have been blocked at some point ?

I've never had an M50 apart so i don't know if it's got a spray bar or not.
