Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a vga signal to rca signal to use with a indash tv headunit? I want to use a pioneer headunit and connect my laptop to it.

You must be able to buy some sort of conversion lead....
most of the time you can use the graphics card/tv-vard output aswell as they'll have a rca output.
why would you want to connect it to your laptop though....?
[that's a question not criticism by the way]

only if the video card is up to it.aceraf wrote:You must be able to buy some sort of conversion lead....
laptops generally don't have this.aceraf wrote:most of the time you can use the graphics card/tv-vard output aswell as they'll have a rca output.
I want to get a tv headunit and have windows running on it so I can access music from a harddrive and more importantly I can run Megasquirt engine management on it which lets you choose what the dials are. So it'll be like virtual boost gauge etc.aceraf wrote:why would you want to connect it to your laptop though....?
found the answer on another forum: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VGA-to-TV-Scart-S ... dZViewItem

I was thinking, anything that a laptop can do, a car pc can....and you'd benefit from having the pc hidden, a laptop isn't the easiest thing to hide!

I need to view the windows and programs aswell. But the main problem is that most video cards are not compatable with the lead.placey wrote:if memory serves there's vga to s-video with rca leads readily available. just don't use the s-video bit...

does the in dash unit not take s-video as an input? s-video is very standard.

that's mot what i meant - see
http://www.computercasesandcables.com/ccc/CV-25120.html
that should get your picture out. the laptop headphone socket should be 3.5mm stereo jack - so a lead that goes from this to 2 rca males will give you audio out. jobs a goodun.

NOTE: Note Though this adapter works with most video cards, some video cards do not support this adapter.
