does a 325i cab on a G plate have hand brake shoes on the back, or does the hand break just work off the disc pads?
my rear passenger side has started squealing and i checked the pads and they are fine but with the hand brake off and you turn the disc the noise sounds like its coming from inside the disc.
what do you have to do to change the handbrake shoes?
rear break squealing?

The handbrake shoes are inside the 'drum' of the rear disc, as with pretty much all bmw rear disc set ups.
To get to them you will have to remove the rear disc
-Wheel off
-caliper, pads, and pad carrier off
-disc off (may need to back off handbrake from inside car under h/brake boot, or via wheel bolt hole to get the disc past the shoes)
then you can see the h/brake shoes which will probably either be cracked, and broken up, or the mechanism will be sticking and binding).

dude, the outer pad may look ok but the piston could be pushing the inner pad up against the disc from inside
if u do take the caliper , then disc to check the hanbrake shoes havent slipped and are rubbing inside
have u felt the squeeling disc for heat recently, if its hot then it may be a seized caliper too

changing the h/ brake is easy enough as long as the previous pins (hold the shoes in the middle to stop them mooving around in the hub) havent been welded on
undo the spacing adjuster in the Upper middle
pull the top spring off, shoes should ping apart
remove the lower spring, and then Undo the holding pins on each side / per shoe
...replace one shoe, make sure the little dent is at the bottom
same for the other side.
Work the pads into position and Find the indents home on the ratchet connector from the hanbrake cable
Then lower spring on first.
Get the adjuster and wind it totally in, place it in position again and put the upper spring on to lock it all together
DOnt forget to undo the hanbrake before all of this or u cant get the disk off. and put it on stands or itll slip when u let the brake off
peice oԚ´ piss mate
