M42 are good performance cams for m40's I think - you need to change a few other parts as well though

To fit m42 cams to an m40 you need to replace the cylinder head and the block as well. Should get good gains!

To fit an M42 cam in an M40 you'd have to do extensive mods . M42 is twin cam; M40 is single!

:D :D :D andrewpany2002, what is your crack dealer supplying you with this time, didnt we have this dicussion on your 316 before about what you want done with it, i did say and ill empasise on this i did say to make it quicker in performance wise is to drive as fast as you can of the dover cliffs then have a parachute strapped to your back then possible half way down AND if you manage to get out of the car do it and pull the cord for the chute to open, at least you will land safely and you can vouch and say " I felt the GEE force from my 316 ".... thats as far as your going.. otherwise pay about £180 + on a hot cam, keep away from the KENT cams as there lumpy, Kent cams originally made cams for the ford motorsport so id reckon there good for them.. schirck now.. id say go for them cos Dr schirck designed cams for josef schnitzer and followed by alpina so if its good for them then its good for you !!

PM me for some fresh home grown by the way it wont screw your cells, cos the stuff your taking probably have mustard seeds in them also... thats whats mashing you up,

Ok ok, so i admit your car is faster.... but my car will be faster as soon as i fit my rear aero wing spoiler, you watch!! it will keep the air flow down at the back causing the car to hold on road and giving me the geee force that im seeking, bit like what your looking for in your raced up 316.... I just thought of something that just might help you with extra speed!!! ok here goes : think of "The Flint Stones"

have holes cut out in your cars floor pan and have two people at the back and a passenger of course at the front, and give them a pair of Nike AIR trainers (the AIR) and get them to put there feet thru the floor pan and once you start driving, let nature takes its course on feet power now that sounds like a spiffing idea!!! extra horse power or human power that is... winkeye winkeye

What you reckon???

:D :D :D :D Just Joking man!!!! -- hope the chip you fitted is good!! 4 branch manaifold now and you can finally overtake Nissan micras 1.0L

I have also an BMW 316i with an M40 engine, and I have tought about replace the camshaft with a hiperformance one because the head on the M40 engine is noisy and she need a new camshaft kit. But I do not see the reasons for it. M40 1.6 is a good engine with good torque on low rews... If you wanted to fit in a more agresive camshaft you will end up like an Fiat with a small engine. You need h*** of rews to make it feel powerfull. Use the standard stuff man, and get your self some upgraded exhaust instead with a KN airlfilter...

Just my two cents

Exhaust will give you another 0.5 bhp, and the K&N will take itaway again!

hehe

I have an M40 318, and really if you have to go fast, then as the other boys say...get an 'engine', and if that ain't good enough, then mod it.

I suspect putting a performance cam will increase your insurance more than getting an IS

I would have thought the opposite Gwyn? The 318 being a lower insurance group :?

First thing I would do is to get some insurance quotes!!
318i with 2.5 could be cheaper than a 325i

Might be wrong but many insurance companies insure a IS the same as a normal 318. I was also thinking standard car vs modified car. obviously it depends on the insurance companies time of the month most though!
