good idea for e30 cab electric windows

i want to make a switch that i can fit in the centre console in place of
where the cut out switch goes

which can bring all four windows down with pressing one switch and all four back up by pressing and holding the same switch down till all windows are up

can this be done?

will be handy to have on a cab as i always take my windows down fully when lowering the softop and puting it up also will be quicker as its hard sometimes put all the windows up while driving

My e36 has exacrly that function and I'd never thought of it for my e30 before. If you find a way, let us know. It's a brilliant idea.

I have a box connected to my alarm that winds the front windows up when you arm the alarm. Think you can only run 2 windows on the unit I have. So you would need 2 units and some kind of trigger to them from the switch that will trigger them. Not too sure if you could do it to drop them.

nothing really; BMW are just being Ãœber-cautious, as the fronts overlap the rears, and it could all end in tears if the two bits of glass overlapped incorrectly

It would be very useful. On my other convertible this function is integrated with the hood opening switch anyway and there's no reason why that couldn't be done by an electronics expert —a but for 15 year old car a simple but effective arrangement is probably better.

The four windows together must have quite a current drain because you can “hearâ€a them drop the voltage. That said it'd be simple enough to arrange with relays of the correct rating. I agree BMW are being uber-cautious in their instruction to raise the rears first. I haven't been that particular for 15 years and it's never done any damage.

I dont bother raising or lowering the windows in a certain order...occasionaly they overlap but do not cause any damage. Haing a 'one touch' switch would make life a little easier - and surley not a big job? I've thought about it for a few years but have no electrical expertise.

Lets try and do this idea! I'd happily be the guniea pig!

Could just do this - (cut into the existing window cables)

f = front
r= rear

both using same live, but 2 fuses in a double throw, double pole switch - normally open switch.
Also this depends on the fact that the existing live feed to the switchs is based upon live to 'normally open switch' therefore when pressing the button down (closing the switch) power is passed to the motor - i dont a working multimeter to see if this is the case.

-(f)-->live > fuse > Switch > capacitors (time delay) {PCB board will need to be made really} >-ve feed to motor = clsoed window
-(r)-->live > fuse > Switch > -ve feed to motor = closed window.

If you want one-touch windows then all you'll need to do is to add another capacitor, to supply the feed for long enough (effectively creating a time delay circuit)
To get the windows to open you just change over the feed supply - i think?

So in turn 1 switch will close the windows, another will open them.
