I've been giving the old girl some lovin' of late.
Just completed a dechrome on the windows. Needs to go in for a service and MOT next week :/ Getting a 40mm drop too ;)
Just a quick was this morning and I've only polished this side hehe. Mind you, it was that bad that the paintwork down the side was actually white!

The colour is weinrot before you ask. Still got a lot of cleaning and tidying to do but I get bored easy so I only spend a couple of hours at a time.

Thanks for the kind words.
I always post the colour up when I put a pic of the car as everyone always asks what it is. Seems its quite unusual (can never find it when looking through those colour charts)

I never like it when I first got the car. It had a beige interior at the time. Proper 'old fart' car ;) But I never knew anything about e30s at the time and it was the only manual I could find. Now, all the other bits have been sprayed black, It's looking better. Still gotta do the rear bumper though as that's going grey.

which de-chrome method did you use?

Were the bumpers chrome before the satin-blacking?

Car looks spot on mate

The bumpers were plastic. But they'd gone badly grey and no amount of clever blackening agent would touch them.

As for the window chrome (thats all I had to do) first I rubbed it all down then added an undercoat of hamerite paint. I was a bit afraid of removing the strips from the car after hearing how fragile it is. This looked bloody awful! So I actually removed the chrome (it's actually really easy to do!) rubbed it all down. Couple of coats of halfords metal primer and a couple of coats of satin black then popped it back on. Didn't break any clips so just reused them.

One thing I didn't do was removed the chrome from under the rear-side window as you need to take that window out to do it. I just Masked it up and sprayed it in situ.

Have you sprayed the side bump strips too?

Did you remove them or just spray them attached to the car?

(If you removed them, could you let me know if its easy to do?)

Cheers fella

Nope, mine were already black. I have had one side off a couple of times (actually, it used to fall off ;))

Taking them off is a bit of a pain. You need to take the inside of the door apart to push the the clips through from the back. A few will probably break but they're only pence from the dealer. It's not a hard job to do just takes a while.
