I still have my first moped.
Honda ss50 later 5 speed .Its in my dads shed all covered up ready to be either sold on e-bay as is or tarted up and rode. Had a look at it about 12 months ago. Bought a new battery and got it started on its 5-6th kick. Pretty good as its not been started for 15 years!!! Reg WJA912S .The last year they were made. 1977 proper old skool.

Wow, the Fizzy, yea. I used to have one of those and an AP50 too. Both would nail the town boys on there chicken chasers!Steve-E30 wrote:I had a fs1e , A proper one with pedalsJesus325iTouring wrote:And still only on £45,if I lived closer,I would buy it and "get around to restoring" one day................in about 10 years.........like my FS1E,which so fars waited 16 years!![]()

Back on topic. That Touring, whilst nice is probably not the best option to look for in a 2002 to restore. A lot of the panels are hard to get for the touring now. They aren't as strong as the saloon due to the lack of structure betwen the rear seats either.
It'll end up getting fragged for the hardware unfortunately.

She's covered over in the shed but unfortunatly doesn't run at the minute and is in need of a total rebuild, one day I'll ressurect her again.
I had a '72 chicken chaser 90,could take an unbelievable amount of abuse!old_skool_2002 wrote:

I got my Fizzy in 1990,it's a '77R,but it was the earliest FS1E model built (AKA the SS)
Had great fun whooping all the local boys on there DT's & ER's!
Pedals,LOL,mine were used for steadying myself around roundaboutsSteve-E30 wrote: I had a fs1e , A proper one with pedals![]()

The earlier ones with pedals were slightly faster , Especially if you removed the chain for the pedals and left them in a fixed position , Mine used to do a tad over 65 , I know this because i got bollocked by my dad as he spotted and followed me
Whos gonna rescue the tourer then , Whats it worth as it is and mint as i have no idea on those models

In '02 circles, the touring isn't that valuable. The turbo is the most sought after. Some 1670 were ever made; Europes first ever turbocharged production car (170bhp). I recently tried to buy one from Austria that was going for 23,000 euro. It sold for more in the end.Steve-E30 wrote:The earlier ones with pedals were slightly faster , Especially if you removed the chain for the pedals and left them in a fixed position , Mine used to do a tad over 65 , I know this because i got bollocked by my dad as he spotted and followed me![]()

Next there is the "Tii" which is the fuel injected model. It uses the Kugelfischer fuel injection system on the M10 engine. This produced 130 Bhp and was no slug. There was a concours 2002Tii saloon that just sold for in excess of 10 grand on ebay.
Although the touring was rare there doesn't seem to be that much following for them. To give you an idea on restoration costs, the rear quarter panels are £1200 for the pair, front panel is £600 etc. Genuine of course!
I drove to Cumbria last week (500 mile round trip) to collect a 1973 model '71 (round rear light) saloon 2002. That has one previous owner, hasn't been taxed since 1986 and has been barn stored since then. I paid £500 for it but to put it into concours condition would cost around £30k. I plan to put it back in a barn and leave it there.
The best bit about restoring these older BMW's is BMW still actively look after them as far as bits are concerned. BMW call it 'Mobile Tradition'.
They are even still manufacturing parts for the '02 models, although to be fair not everything is still available.

^^ Anyone with any sense would buy as many decent E30's as they could and stick them under a sheet and in a barn for ten years. I would say it would be a reasonable investment.
