Just changed the oil and filter on my 325 touring and also did the following: replaced the air filter (a fairly new standard one) with a K&N panel filter, replaced fairly new v-groove plugs with platinum ones and adjusted the valve clearances. Interestingly the gaps were all slightly too big (maybe 0.3 instead of 0.25) except on cylinder 5 - which were spot on - both inlet and exhaust.... wierd

Anyway, as soon as I did a test after this there's a noticable difference in the acceleration. Before the work, I needed to get over about 3-3.5k to get any decent pull but now its there from just over 2k.

I think thats a good result for an afternoon skived off work

Just wish I'd have done the test drive after each stage to see what caused the biggest improvement - what do you think it caused it?

It was more likely to be a combination of the above that made the overall improvement.

Can u tell me where you got the K&N replacement panel filter and how much did it cost? Does it create more induction roar?
Cheers, Neil

Yeh, Its my thinking that its probably a combination.

Neil, the K&N came from ECP - it was Ԛ£26+VAT. Cheaper than GSF I think. There's not much of an induction roar but drilling some holes in the airbox should do the job :)

Good price for that K&N! I fitted one the other day - car feels a tiny bit better, most noticably at the top end. A mate of mine drilled his airbox and his car didn't pull as well as mine in higher gears. But it did sound better and his engine could have just been knackered?!

I'd suggest that you haven't actually increased overall power, just brought the engine closer to standard.

Those grove plugs don't really achieve anything other than longer service life. The spark will jump to the nearest point on the electrode. Once that wears away, it moves to the next nearest.

Totally agree TurboBrown, but the thing is it has improved over its old self - almost like buying a new car - so I've been out and about over the weekend enjoying it. 8) Normally I take it into a garage for a service and never notice any difference when I get it back. Just thought I'd do it myself this time to make sure it was done right and as well as the money saved my car drives better into the bargain.
