One of the reason some people modify their cars is to make them look different to everyone elses, if they were all the same then their would be no point in having meets etc as there would be no reason to look at other cars as they would all be the same...
That's the irony of it all. It's not indervijuwel though. There are millions of barry scrotes running round with tatted up sheds.

Fair enough if you feel the need to wave your willy, certainly strapping an extra 500kg to your car will attract attention. However it'll mostly be people laughing and calling you Barry. Someone may even take pics of it, post it on barryboys for the world to laugh at.

I'm not sure how that would conflict with your need to be noticed in the first instance.

Shak, I'm not referring to you directly here, infer 'you' to mean anyone with adesire to barry their car!!!

Yeah well blatantarrogance, that depends on how an individual has modified their car, some come out looking nice, some come out and look sh#te. But that all depends on peoples taste...

Very true! Most 'modifcations' add no benefit to the car. The whole scene is tarnished with chavs, crap cosras with more panel gappage than the grand canyon.

For every 'nice' car there's a thousand sh1tters. So nice cars are in the minority.

Why not save yourself a fortune and buy a car you like the look of?

Cos they dont make a M3 with 4 doors winkeye

Basically i need to get the arches widened as i want to put some deep dish alloys on my car, but ive tried it before but it still rubbed against the arches a little when people sat in the back, so then decided to use the M3 wings as they are alot wider and also it will make the car look different and unique if its done properly, cant say how it will look until its done, it might be a waste of money if it comes out not looking as i expected it to. But wanted to modify it but using original BMW bits. I would go and buy a M3 but i prefer 4 doors personally as im a lazy so and so.

I like the look of e30 m3's, so this is one of the reasons i want to use the m3 parts on my e30...

Very true!!!

I'm not sure how it would work out. The m3 tourer looks amazing. It works because everyone knows bmw didn't make one and it's not trying to hide what it is and be something else.

Whereas the 4 door idea, to the untrained eye may pass as an m3 to look at. So it may be viewed as trying to be something it's not.

Seems like you have a practical justification for it, although what width wheels are you trying to fit?

They must be really wide to need the arch work!

Naa there not as big as you might be thinking, they are 9.5 rear 8.5 front, but never know what the future may bring, may go bigger!!

But to tell you the truth i got my idea after seeing that tourer, so i thought it looks good on that, so it cant look that bad on a normal 4 door, plus i just like the look of the m3 so i thought may as well make it look like the m3 but with 4 doors...
Obviously people on here and who know about e30's know bmw didnt make one in a 4 door, but thats the whole idea of projects, to make your car look different from others, but not getting over creative so that it dont look like an e30 or even going overboard and making it look like spaceship(maxpower look).

Hopefully it will come out as i hope it does, but still got a awhile to think about it, as i haven't actually started it yet.

Guess will have to wait and see what happens, if i do go ahead, will just have to put up with all the criticisms that i get.....

Hi

I have though about the tourer idea, planned on using m3 cab rear wings as the boot line on the cab is not raised as the on the m3 I was thinking they might meet better.

Shouldn't matter if you're cutting panels?

Would it not be easier to cut the arse end of out a real M3, then fit a touring tail to it? After all, that's how the original touring was built, althout with a 4-door start obviously...

That way you'd get the whole M3, not just the engine...

Might take some skilled welding though:p

There's a difference between a pikey cut and shut, and a welder who know's what they're doing you know!

It's perfectly possible to build ships, aircraft and submarines out of more than one original vehicle, and in fact it's been done. Even the USS San Fransisco is half of the USS Honolulu...and that's a nuclear submarine!

Besides, how do you think the E30 is built, if not from flat pressings welded together?

My engineering sense (bit like a spidey-sense, but with metal  ) tells me it's doable...and like I said, you get a pucka M3 touring, instead of a touring with an M3 engine.

Besides, many more M3s have been wasted by putting 20 inch bling on 'em :P

Wouldn't modifying the existing rear panels to accept the flared arches be less intrusive on the overal integrity of the car?

Dunno, not familiar with the overall structure of an E30...presumably the touring and M3 share a floorpan though (and hence have all the major structural members in the same placee etc.), so it'd be possible to make all the bits fit...
