Council does not mean penniless. Council means crappy council taste.
I know many 'council crew' rolling around in E46 M3's, S-Classes etc - what does that mean?
Council is fake gold wearing, chrome interior trim having, burberry lusting, single parent being state of mind.
Not penniless.

Sounds just like pacerpete

I love classily modified cars, the sort of thing Edition 38 do in the VW scene. I believe it's called OEM+. Just making the car more like it might be if it was built today. Modding an E30 with an M50 engine, dropping it slightly, fitting Germanic-style wheels etc and generally not making it look like a dog's dinner seems fine to me. After all we're talking about a 20 year old car here.
On the other hand you have the "nail a ton of GRP and LEDs to it" school of modding. Now, it takes all sorts to make a wonderful world but I wish they'd just stop it. Making your car look like a jerry-built spaceship shouldn't be anything to be proud of. I'm not convinced that because you spent £70k it makes it any better than a £500 Barry'd Nova. Don't tell Ben though cos he's bigger than me.
Back to the subject of the M3 "kit" specifically. How much work would it be to create a convincing E30 M3 replica. About a billion man-hours give or take and a year's global production of plastic padding. And you'd still have something that no-one else would want because it's not got M3 on the V5 or the M3's suspension set-up which is surely the most important thing about the whole car.
Meandering rant over.

so... just because I posted it and I really like it... whats the general opinion on taking a touring, putting m3 running gear in it from top to bottom, adding wide 'm3' arches and kit?
Its not an m3... but its a f*cking cool car. imho.
Its a shame bmw didnt make an M touring e30, they've only just realised now with the M5 touring that fast estates are the mutts nuts.

Councilness is a state of mind - as the old saying goes, new money shouts, old money whispers.
1971 Rolls Corniche FHC = £25'000 for the best one in the world and so classy and discreet.
2007 Rolls Phantom = £250'000 and council to the core. Look at who is buying them. Bruv, innit. Yo.
Same with Ferraris. Own a 288GTO, 250GT Lusso or a humble 308GTB and you're a hero. Buy a 360 Modena or an Enzo and you're a terrible, gurning attention seeking twat.

E34 M5 was LHD only. But really nice.
The E30 touring with the M3 kit on it is a beautiful car. It's one of the top ten links on the front page of the zone and one of the very best modded cars I've ever seen. The quality of metalwork is stunning.

A Lamborghini Gallardo (Superleggera please) is a nice piece of kit parked on a road. You walk by and admire it. Maybe you're looking it from across the road whilst sat down having a drink. You pickup the details, the wheels and the lines etc.
You 're quite enjoying your quiet moment with a car you'll probably never drive, let alone own. Day dreaming just like when you were a kid, just like Lambo's marketing chiefs want you to.
Then the owner strolls up and gets in - what a wanker and what a wankers car!
Why are cars like this ruined soon as you put the owner next to them?

The word council is freely applied to all sorts of deviants. The origin of the word is from Council House.

Those 2 cars are council and not in a friendly back slapping fun way.
They are council... like Peckham council...

Pete & co just abuse me anyway so no point in sticking up for standard crowd

Because sadly it's the world we live in where people with very little talent and even less taste (footballers, R&B 'stars', Rappin' Bruvvas etc etc)can buy them. Look at how Rolls, Bentley and Aston Martin have been absolutely ruined. Thankfully the cockends who buy them just don't 'get' old cars. A mint 308GTB is criminally undervalued at 30k tops. Ownership of such a car means you aren't one of the terrible Schuey worshipping Tifosi wankers. You're someone who appreciates a really nice old car. The best illustration of this is the Ferrari section at the Nurburgring OGP. 60 year old silver foxes and their spray tan trophy wives mill around their Enzos and 360's but the older stuff attracts a different crowd. My fave was a 1977 308GT4 Bertone in metallic brown with tan velour trim. Worth about 15 grand and it goes right over the heads of most flash Tifosi twats.Royalratch wrote:A Lamborghini Gallardo (Superleggera please) is a nice piece of kit parked on a road. Just say no!
If you've got the sort of money it takes to create a genuine looking fake M3 (yuk!) then you probably have enough money to buy a genuine M3 anyway!!!!

The most council flash new car you can buy is a range rover sport . Yes it looks great, yes it is dynamically adequate etc etc but just look at the flotsam who drive them . I wonder when you buy one do they give you a t shirt emblazoned with " my previous car was a low mileage pajero super exceed delicia but now i have made the big time , look at me !"
An X5 with tints and big rims was right up there but the 'sport' has really captured the imagination of the council crew and knocked the X5 off its perch

The Q7 is very sad, but then again being joined at the hip with the toerag and the cayenne, audis b4stard didn't stand much of a chance of being anything other than a big pointless turd for sad losers who believe all that 'well hung teknik ' crap !
