Bike carbs / Weber / Dolerto (sp)

I'm after getting rid of the stock carb as it seems quite asthmatic. I dont want to spend fortunes so preferably something 2nd hand. I do, however, want some sort of gains, preferably noticeable.

I've read about weber carbs on here but I'm under the impression they are quite expensive.

I'm after links I suppose to cheap carb upgrades.

The engine is a 1.8 m10.

I believe m10's are very strong and ideal for a bit of turbo action.

Correct me if im wrong but i believe it was the basis for sum of the 1000bhp bmw turbo race cars, from 70's and 80's

^ he's not wrong !

basic block was same, the rest was rather exotic though

for a cheap carb upgrade, find an 1800 sierra with the 32/34 DMTL carb on it, and make an adapter up??

twin venturi and lots of jets available.

you'll have to do your own R+ D mind, or hope to land some OE solex from a 2002 ??

aah bugger

I've heard of the 1k bhp m10, but as turbo conversions cost a canny bit, are fairly involved and will require welding skill/space I thought the carb upgrade would be more of a straight forward upgrade.

I am looking to turbo it in the future but I was hoping to get a bit more research under my belt before attempting it.

I'll leave it as it is for now.

Cheers guys

hmmm

How easy is it to change a carb, is it a simple off with the old, on with the new job?

If it is I'll give it a bash :D

It would fit I supopose but wouldn't be much of an upgrade.
Also I'm not sure of the age of that E21 316 and if it's a 1.6 or 1.8 litre.

Get the 2002 one, it's new!
The carb should just bolt on and work but will need some tuning probably. You could add the inlet manifold for the carb too in case the carb doesn't fit directly plus you'll get more breathing.

I wasnt looking to pay that much to be honest, but I'm easily persuaded lol :D

There are a few other carbs available on that link if he's sold it.

It's been for sale for ages so he may let it go cheaper.

Any news from him yet?

Get a set of 38mm carbs from an early yamaha R1. I fitted a set of these to a scirocco and boy do they sound nice! Great throttle response and the arse dyno did advise of improved performance.
