Bit of a can of worms this subject then!
I agree that top mounts cannot affect the geometry of the rear end of the car. However, whenever the rear wheels move up or down then some load is transferred via the dampers and a more solid mount will affect how this happens to some degree. I wouldn't expect to be able to feel the difference under most normal driving conditions.

Either way, I don't agree that E46 mounts are a like-for-like with the Rogue items.

no one has said they are a like for like. What i am saying is you don't need the rogue ones as i have explained.
for 99% of people on here the dealer item is the one to go for and with a 2 year warranty on all their parts where can you go wrong in all honesty

it's like OE M3 offset control arm bushes and poly ones! ones good ones crap and falls apart! lol

Erm, quick question - E46 cab tops mounts and E46 M3 cab top mounts - any difference? Just ordered some from Trenics but I didn't say M3 ones...

I've had some bad experiences with poly bushes before. Are the offset poly bushes regarded as crap too then?

In all fairness, ive been running a set of poly bushes for well over a year now, and they havn't shown any signs of falling apart.
Faulty batch maybe?

Some like them, cheap and cheerful if you ask me, i can think of 3 cars off the top of my head 2 on the zone where they have had massive failures of them literally falling apart. One set had been on only weeks.

Dealer ones are dear but you won't replace them for a very, very long time

A while back a fair few fell apart and not just on E30's. The same bush is used in the E36's.

It didn't help powerflex and they sent out free bushes to alot of people. Some were put off permanently though.

It was put down to bad material. The purple area of the bush was not the problem but the black outer section.

We supply inbetween 4-10 sets a week of these to E30 and E36 customers, no similar problems have occured but I can understand why people were and are put off.

If powerflex bushes do fall apart or crack remember that they have a life time warranty and you should approach the deaer who supplied them to replace them. The dealers do not get charged so they have no reason not to help you.

You can also go to Powerflex directly if your dealer does not help you.

In the past I've experimented with new OEM rubber and powerflex and I'd say that new rubber feels just as firm as polyurethane. However, rubber falls apart a lot more quickly. I'd expect expensive genuine parts to be a lot better than pattern parts. Items like Powerflex are good if used selectively. For example, I ran Powerflex rear beam bushes on my Astra GTE and they were excellent, but I'd never run Powerflex front wishbone bushes on the same car because they stuck and rubbed on the chassis. You have to do your research, they aren't universally wonderful, but do help in the right situation.

Very well put.

I guess you might have an idea as to why we didn't charge you for a certain bush. Might explain why it never turned up either.

e46 top mounts will be fine for road use, and to make them more effective the use of the re -enforcing wash is recomended

i dont know the part number off hand, but and competant dealer will be able to bring it up, and they are only a a couple of quid

the ECP/GFS top mounts have failed in the past and i've been given a full refund, but what does surprise me is theat they are all made by boge, same part numbers as well !

as for me and my choice of top mounts, it depends on aplication, power and use of the car, same goes for bushes. i use a combination of OE, polly and delrin to give the best on the performance and reliability on road as that is where 99% of us use ours cars 99% of the time, abeit enthusiasticly on pot holed roads!

the rogue engineering stuff is decently priced.....

i mean heck, order from rogue direct their only 90$ (approx 45£!) and they weigh 2lbs on their site, so delivery should be no more then 10$. (10$ anything up to 4.4ilbs international standard package) so thats about 50£ now.. though the beuaty of it all is.... that before any muppet shouts TAX TAX TAX, i suggest you keep your mouth shut, as anything under the value of 50£ exc postage, is tax exempt..

thus enjoy rogue engineering top mounts,,, at 45£ plus delivery, inc the non existant tax that is scare mongered into us :D

thus at around 50£, i think they are worth getting! :)

i was thinking of doing a group buy for the greater good of the zone,,, but then im thinking hmm the tax might kick in then, all dpends on how much rogue off for a group buy i suppose, might beat the tax rate!
not strictly true

under 36 pounds and as long as its a gift which is at their discretion is exempt from import tax and vat

jon
or under $25 (about £12) regardless

funny how i got a portercable, pads and a tub of sonus polish worth $25 winkeye

What's this washer? I've got my E46 top mounts and plan to do the job this weekend, but I'd like to do it once and once only

No difference, the E46 convertible top mounts are fitted to all convertibles, 318ci to M3 cab, and also M3 hardtop and M3 CSL.
