hi guys? ive been offered a rotten 635csi with a good engine quite cheap, what i want to find out is... is it worth me ripping the engine etc out and putting it in an e30? what power will i get with just the standard engine? how much roughly does the conversion cost as money is more of a factor than anything rite now. any advice much appreciated. There is a LOT of 335 info on here - put '335' or 'M30' in the search!
You should find loads of info.
I believe the 635i engine is the older type M30 so you'll probably still need a later E34 535i or E32 735i sump and oil pick up pipe to clear the E30 cross member.
A standard M30 (from new) is around 215 bhp.
Cost depends how you go about things, whether you make your own mounting brackets, exhaust etc. And how much of a bargain you get a donor for. E34 535i with a good engine and manual box is often the best way to go.

I think the manifolds are different (older engine) but shoudlnt see why they wouldnt fit. Is the box auto or manual.. If its manual, it might be worth keeping!! (People say the dogleg isnt strong, but if they used it in the touring cars etc.. I don't see why it wouldnt hold up to normal everyday use.

people say the dogleg box isn't strong because... it isn't strong.
in my experiene they don't last long behind an M30.
Tommy, unless it's a late 635 forget it. the sump and pickup are wrong, there's an extra coolant pipe on the back of the head that'll be a pain, the exhaust manifold is wrong, unless it's manual finding a manual box will be a pain as the older M30 needs a box with flywheel sensor mounts on the bellhousing. you can swap most of the bits from an e34 but why bother.
get an e34 535i manual for £100 quid upwards. it'll save time and money.
