hi all, as mentioned above i phoned a friend up at his garage and he tells me that hes got a 325ix. i know they are 4wd, apparently it has got all the kit on. its lhd though. i dont know the milage, he was in the middle of converting it to rhd but he got a price for the steering rack and thought better of it!
what should i offer him for it? he tells me its in g.c. no rust on the rear arches. the engine is strong.
thanks tim.

Very rare car. And perfect for the winter months. Not so sure about the general running costs, but would check.
There's more going on under there so give it a thorough check.

they are very rare, onl made for the north america and african markets (i think) and would assume same sort of money as the Tech 1, I also suspect parts are harder to come by tho.

ask Tim-ix he's got one

not worth a lot in this country as they're all left hookers and slower than a standard 325 a curiosity but not a particularly desirable one for most.

People just see them as a lhd E30.

Another Tim possibly owning an iX? What are the chances of that?

I suspect he gave up on the RHD conversion because it's a lot more complicated that swapping the rack over and fitting a new dash. The 4WD hardware gets in the way.

It has the bodykit because it's got a wider track and different wheel offset. Engine is the same apart from some minor issues such as the sump and oil pump. If the VC in the centre diff is gone it can get expensive.

Don't know about prices. Not many in the UK so they don't change hands that often.

Check out www.e30tech.com for iX info

Don't think it would ever make sport money- it's a rare car for sure, only a handful of these registered in the UK, but the LHD puts most folk off (and as your mate found out, converting them is extremely difficult without throwing big bucks around).

I would have thought it's worth as much as any other standard 325i: Just go by the condition/milage/history/MOT/tax/options.

They were available in europe too, just not here in the UK.

Apparently the transfer box isn't very strong, chain driven iirc.

Cheers,

I'd give my left nut for a touring IX. Superb car. LHD doesn't scare me and they can be turbo'd as long as the front transfer box is beefed up. Then you've got a real scooby chaser :)

The US seems to have a pretty solid following for the iX according to e30tech.

Morat - they certainly can be turboed. Check out Thing90-ix on E30tech to see a twin-turbo iX. A Scooby chaser? Well maybe, but you've got to remember that these are old cars now. I probably won't be doing much racing in mine but it was brill when it snowed and I was picking up unfortunates waiting for buses that would never come.

The iX sold best in North America I think. The FOI request data which is on the zone somewhere reckoned there are 7 in the UK.

Rare car agreed, but the value is more 325i money around £1000-£1500 from the examples i have seen for sale.

Aparently they are a reliable beast which is controverisal to what most people on here think. I have read that on a standing start and side stepping the clutch sub 8 seconds to 60 is achievable!

As mentioned turboing gets you significent gains, and with its traction makes for a real point to point weapon.

Some guy in the states is running 350bhp and similar torque and is seeing 12's on the QTR mile!...all on standard running gear too.

Also a fella called jason from brum has/had one, ive seen at least 4 different ones pass thru ebay in the past few years...

i havent offered anything yet. the bloke owns the garage. gonna get the b20 sorted and chop it in. im not going to pay over the odds. he seems to think its as rare as rocking hourse shit. he drove to germany and picked it up back in 2000. it hasnt been registered yet over here. its got the full recaro interior. i dont know the milage, but i have the chassis number. so i will give bmw gb a bell on monday and find out everything! the schnitzers will look good on her. first thing i will do is waxoil the whole underneith of the car and the wheel arches. looks tidy though! i couldnt fault it. it also has chrome!!!! :bling: :bling:

Your rims will probably not fit very well, as the offset is much higher on the iX.

You could find mint examples on the continent for between 1000 for a 4 door and 1800 for a touring. And they haven't been standing. (check "yours" for ratteling transmission)

Actually, they don't really feel slower, just more "damped" than the normal ones. They're great in the snow and the iX bodykit is very pleasant.
Many of them also have the rear height adjustable suspension. (well, at least the tourings)

To cover the wheels as a result of the wider front track.
