I need a ball joint splitter, just wondering what size I need (for front suspension change on a J plate touring)...

Do they even come in different sizes or am I just being dumb?

oooooh theyre the worst type
famous for ripping rubber boots mate

tbh cliffy,s theory will work well as long as you dnt smack anything too hard loli have a wishbone infront of me if ya want some measurements??

unscrew nut to very top so its on but finger tight and stick a block of wood on top of nut and 1 swift smack usualy frees em up winkeye

Yeah measurements would be good if you dont mind... might just have a go with a block of wood, thats how the last guy to do my springs did it but he then went on to f*ck someone elses a couple of weeks later...

so I'd need the smaller one then... i think...

Its just that bolt that needs to come out so I can drop the strut out.

if you use the U shaped splitter you will almost certainly split the rubber boot and then this will need replacing aswell!

The wood method is the best......

This is the type of splitter I would get..

I've used it countless times on e30's and not damaged a rubber boot on a single occasion. They are excellent, and well worth the having. HTH.

That's the only type to use ^, avoids tearing the boot and avoids using a hammer and works first time every time.

Hammers are for bodgers :flipbird:

Can someone post up a new link to a suitable splitter to remove the front struts? The ebay link is dead....

Was it for something like this? Or is this too small?

I have the same one which I have used effectively on e30 strut to wishbone and tie rod balljoints.

I however broke one of the forks off trying to use it on an e36, this was more down to misuse rather than poor quality. ( it wasn't quite over the joint far enough.)
