I have had four E30's, at different times, over the years but have to confess these days i don't currently own one

What i do have is two of the E30's bigger brothers', an E28 528i and an E28 M5 and a car that i don't think many will remember, an E3 3.0si (like the 3.0cs but the saloon model) oh never mind

Anyway my reason for contacting you guys, and girls, is that i have heard that between you all you have a wealth of knowledge. This is going to sound criminal but i have decided to use the M5 for Track days only, it brings out the absolute worst in me on the road and my wife refuses to get in it with me anymore, bonus .

Does anyone have bucket seats, runners and harnesses for sale, if they fit an E30, they will fit my E28's.

Hope you don't mind the intrusion, E28 followers seem none existent, there is a web site, but no one seems to update it

Oh yes, i would love to attend one of you pub meets some time, if i'm welcome, i live in East Sussex.

Thanks for those kind words to bore you further i will tell you a little about the car. It is white, with the body kit and i bought it for far too much cash five years ago , it had been stood in a garage for four years, that was my second mistake

I got it home and spent more money, loads more getting everything sorted. New brake discs and pads all round, new fuel tank (rotted) the list went on and on, enough of that, it is "the money pit." The car is nice but with 186000 miles on the clock, and in need of new wings, n/s rear arch etc etc it is just not worth it.

I am 40 in a few days so my family bought a half track day at Bedford ( fantastic, 3.6 miles long, 140mph on the long straight ) there were several E30 325i there, and doing very well. and a full day in France yesterday, 15 mins with the instructor and i drove that old barge like i've never driven it before (a few chinless wonders it their GT3 Porches, were less than imressed at my "keeping with them for a while"

So that is it, i am hooked, the suspension has all been renewed, it has 8J 16" 7 series BBS's with Track day Toyo 888 rubber( knackered already!), it pushes closer to 300BHP now rather than the 286 it let the fatherland with

No more tax and insurance for me, i'm going to remove the electric leather recaros and everything else that's not essencial, hire a trailer for £30 a day and do Two Track days a year, after all i still have the E28 528i and the E3, for the road, not forgetting my everyday car that allows me to afford the others, it's a peach, my wife has named it "the Babe Magnet" it is a 1991 Toyota Carina 2 with 206000 miles on it, it is so rough that i was given it by the previous owner My boss loves me visiting Construction clients in it, not!

If you would give your left nut for an E28 M5, then buy the best one you can, there is no such thing as a bagain E28 M5, or get one cheap and have as much fun as sex, and track day it, it commanded an awful lot of admiration as i hurled it round a very tight circuit in Abbeville, France yesterday.

Oh yes, on track it's doing well to return 7MPG

Pease, Please let me know if someone does have the bucket seats that i need?

The E3 you describe certainly brings back some memories, it has the fuel filler hidden behind the rear numberplate if i remember rightly. When i was a nipper my dad used to tow a caravan with it and once got upto 130mph (nutter! ) and swears that it was far better than his e46 330Ci!

Yes it was my E3 at Yeovil last year. I do have some pictures of each of the cars on my computer at work, i wil try to post them next week.

Bedford half day is all you need, the track is 3.6 miles long but book some instruction for £30, worth every penny. The next Half day is on 25th August 2007 go to www.easytrack.co.uk, the half day will cost you £109 , you won't regret it.

I am bidding on Flea bay for a set of classic Corbeau seats as we speak.

I am not in the least bit surprised that you have not seen an E3 before, you are way too young! Production ceased in 1978, i will try to post some photos next week of both E28's and the E3. For now though have a look in the Classic BMW section on Ebay,there is a modified bronze one on there, a rare car now, thought to be less than 40 E3's still registered in the UK, it's like the old E9 3.0csi but the saloon version. In standard form my E3 3.0si produced 200BHP in 1973 when new, definately the M5 of it's day, and would set you back £5750 new, you could buy a house for that then!

I used to have an e28 528. Lovely car, seats like armchairs, with proper springs! None of this foam crap.

It was black and I always thought it needed some flags on the front wings, and me in a russian furry hat and trench coat. Russian diplomat styleee...

It went pretty well too, I had 135 out of it once, but it was scary, even more so when the rear tyre blew at that speed

On the subject of the M5 (as he bores you all to death) European and UK model develop 286 BHP, where as the USA and Canadian one were 256BHP. There is no difference in the engine and running gear to the E24 M6. The M6 was made in greater numbers where as the E28 M5 only had 187 UK RHD cars produced, mine is Nr 172. Just before we all get too carried away thinking that I must be minted, mine has 186000 miles on the clock and needs body work, hence the decision to use it as a track car.

Oh yes on the subject of E3's and gangster films, you are quite right, one appears in the opening sequences of a classic Bob Hoskins film called The Long Good Friday circa 1979.

E3??!!!!! I had a Tundra green (like Boston green) 3.0S manual many years ago. It was PGN34L and had tan leather and shitloads of rust. On top it was mint (it had new wings not long before I bought it) but the underneath was a mess. I Had a 3.0CSL too in Inca orange.
Bedford autodrome is a good circuit. The last time I did it was in an ex police 528i E28, a dark blue thing that when new was used by Northamptonshire Filt..police as a plain clothes traffic car. So I wreaked my revenge on the bastard at Bedford. I could only get 125 mph on the back straight. With a non rev limiting rotor arm it gave a few E30 M3's a fright because on the back straight you're supposed to slow to about 70 before the chicane. Fuck that. I kept my boot in and just went over the grass at a ton+. The first time was unintentional...............

munky, the answer to that question is, not nearly enough. The M5 is insured for £10k but i would be hard pressed to see half of that if i put it up for sale, due to mileage etc.

The 528i is immaculate, with dogleg box, new Bilstein sports on all 4 corners and a new 6 branch and the same s/s system as the M5, leather pearl beige interior might fetch £6k?

I will be going to Gaydon in the 528i this year, might see you all there?
