a few Q's on cabbys
Moderator: martauto
all related to e30 cabs
1- red leather, what edition of the e30 cabs does the red leather come in, was it ever a factory fitted interior?
lotus white comes in motorsports, so does the bubble leather, but where does the red interior come from?
2-i have had auto and manual roofs, when taking the roof down do you always get to a stage where you have to tuck some of the roof in to fold it away properly so it doesnt hit the rear headrests?
is it the same for auto roofs, at one stage you have to go to the back to tidy up the folding?
i think thats it for now
thanks

Not sure about the red leather question, but regarding the rear headrests - as long as they're at the lowest setting, my auto roof clears them ok. I just sit there with my finger on the button

on my manual roof it clears rear headrests easily. Mind you until i read the above I didn't realise they had height settings!

I certainly prefer the manual roof, peice of mind knowing there are no creases in the back window. I think with the power hoods you would still need to get out to fold the roof properly to stop creases in the window but it's not a nessecity.

Gone but not forgotten.

i dont need to fold my roof in to avoid it hitting the headrests, but i do require a fold at the first cross member and i need to tuck in the canvas straps, if i dont do this i cannot close the roof cover (manual roof by the way)

Red (Cardinalrot) leather was available on any cab (or M3) that was ordered in the following colours according to the 1987 colour brochure.
Black (Schwarz) Cab only
Atlantis Blue (AtlantisBlau) Cab only
Alpine White (Alpineweiss) Cab and M3
Bronze Beige (Bronzitbeige) Cab only
Diamond Black (Diamantschwarz) Cab and M3
Royal Blue (Royalblau) Cab only
Lachs Silver (Lachssilber) Cab and M3
Luxor Beige (Luxorbeige) Cab only
Red leather was not an option in any other models (although I believe you could "special order" under the individual scheme).
My manual hood always needs tucking in slightly on around the back seat radius other wise the hood cover would trap it.

Sounds like some of you guys are having a similar issue to me... Knackered tensioner straps!!
Oh I wouldn't have an auto roof even if someone paid me.

thats exactly what i meant, your wording is better, i have to tuck it in from the first cross member and tuck the straps in, every manual i have had its the same, i had an auto and it was the same, couldnt be arsed to run back and foward so i used it manualy.mrLEE30 wrote:i dont need to fold my roof in to avoid it hitting the headrests, but i do require a fold at the first cross member and i need to tuck in the canvas straps, if i dont do this i cannot close the roof cover (manual roof by the way)

My old roof only needed a little adjustment as you rested the lip of the roof on the edge of the storage lid. My new one, I have to slide a bar across first, fold it back, tuck it all in and all sorts as the straps are fecked.E3OBM wrote:thats exactly what i meant, your wording is better, i have to tuck it in from the first cross member and tuck the straps in, every manual i have had its the same, i had an auto and it was the same, couldnt be arsed to run back and foward so i used it manualy.mrLEE30 wrote:i dont need to fold my roof in to avoid it hitting the headrests, but i do require a fold at the first cross member and i need to tuck in the canvas straps, if i dont do this i cannot close the roof cover (manual roof by the way)
I'd like to know if the tensioer straps are replaceable, as they are they'll prematuely age the roof.
yes they are replaceable ..i don't know what the price is at the dealer but they are in the us if you cant find them here

After a couple of years of involuntary abstinence, I decided to give this site another go but I'm afraid I find all this talk of creases and hood tucking a little extreme for my taste. The problem is that you chickens no longer tuck your mishes into your kaffies, so you're all a bit out of practice. Oh, the wild rhetoric of youth!

This site is for people who appreciate E30s, their own and other peoples, if you're only here to cause bother, then crawl back under your stone, you are not welcome with comments like that.

Listen, Troll. Time for you to return to the cave from whence you came. You are clearly dellusional if in reading the topic you expected something different in responce.Greencab wrote:After a couple of years of involuntary abstinence, I decided to give this site another go but I'm afraid I find all this talk of creases and hood tucking a little extreme for my taste. A cab roof should last about 10 years and if people do not yet realise the little black thingies are tensioner straps and fundamental to the longevity of the roof, then this thread has been worthwhile.
How you cannot distinguish between a thread offering some level of techincal advice and discussion on prevailing fashionble preferneces (nee taste) is beyond me. Perhaps you should return to w@nking over heat magazine if you have nothing constructive to add.
I also fail to see the similarity betweeen this thread and rhetoric. Now pi$$ off and learn some new words to practice.

That green cab is pimped. It looks like something 50 cent would own
I think you should de-pimp it and flare the arches, bigger and wider rims, a few screens and a colour change and it would look standard then

It's great to push a stick into a wasps nest every now and then. Pitty this one was empty. You're right though, this site is no place for an old crettin like me, so I'll f#!k off, as you kindly suggested. Before I go though, I want to thank you all for keeping the value of cabs down by your tastefull customising.
Keep on arthuring your chauds!
