Hello,

After having to push my car to its limits to get out of a situation i realised that my brakes were F2cked and that i could have killed my self  .

I NEED info on brake upgrade paths that i can use on my E30.

I have purchased ATE vented and slotted discs but need good calipers and space is no worries as i have 18inch wheels.

1st off is there ANY BMW calipers that are interchangable with mine if so year/model/series?

2nd if there isn't any can ANYONE please reconmend a site or distributor or anything, that is willing to ship to Sydney Australia?

I know of Wilwood's but they are fairly costly and i have not found a distributor in Australia for them.

If anyone can help me i'd appreciate it for ever as i am lucky to be alive bcoz once my brakes heat up its see you later.

Any info is appreciated guys.

Cheers.

Thanks SGP, however i forgot to mention that i have a toyota Supra inline 6 cylinder twin turbo engine, FMIC, 3" turbo's back exhaust etc in my E30 which currently has 224RWKW and expecting a biiiiiiig jump once my bolt ons are added which are a twin trust TD05 16G's, Sard 800cc injectors,Twin HKS 38mm external wastegates on HKS manifolds, Apexi Power FC etc etc.

So if i cant brake NOW with this set up i do not know how i will when i am expecting 300+RWKW.

Any help guys please.

PS

PICS of my car and transplant will be up in an hr in the transplant/forced induction section.

i dont know what sort of power your engine puts out but my touring with 292 bhp stops fine with standard size discs and calipers but uprated to EBC drilled/grooved discs with matching EBC red ceramic pads on the front and green on the rear. no fade no matter how much i abuse them.

Thanks for the help Fuzzy, where can I find EBC brake pads?

m3ben05, You got to understand were im coming from.

Here in Australia everyone drives there 200sx, HSV or WRX and you can find anything in the world at a bloody convience store if you really had to for either car.

Driving E30's all my life I go thru headache after headache when it comes to finding anything for my car.

I would have loved to go the M3 conversion but just to give you a rough idea of how expensive/ridiculous wreckers are here i'll put an example of a quote i got.

For E36 M3 engine, box, computer I was quoted $17000 and that was exchange because I have a 6speed SMG box at home that i got off a friend.

Now for $17000 on just engine, box, computer you can imagine the kind of bill I would come into once im finished.

If people on this site hold prejudice towards me due to my jap engine conversion, I hope they can understand the sh*t we go thru here for parts etc.

For an LSD I paid $1100 and that was down from $1300 bcoz my mate bought one too.

For a front crome bumper your looking at $200 and for the later model plastic your looking at min $350 front and $450 rear and these are STANDARD parts that are hard to find let alone MODIFYIED.

Can anyone now see the frustration/headache I have to go thru for my passion of E30's?

If I sound like a pr#ck I dont mean to but my friend I am after simple answer's which I was told and expected would be easy to find on this site seeing it truly is a site for enthusiast/addicts.

So my question is still open for what other BMW calipers yr/model will fit on my car with slight or no mods?

Any help will be great.

From an earlier thread:

Don't forget, uprated fluid, pads and hoses make a big difference too.

Ok, i do understand your frustrations here mate.

I have a few mates in australia, so i know parts for these cars can be hard to find. IIRC the 4 pot calipers from a 735 will fit, however i would imagine these are equally as hard/expensive to get hold of.

Do the parts need to be OEM, or will you consider an aftermarket brake kit? If so, check out this site -

http://www.bmw2002.com/

They do 2 bbk's for the e30 and are very reasonable prices. Although they are only 2 piston calipers there is a guy on here running these on an M3 with an e36 M3 engine and he says they are fine.

Hope this helps

That might have been me :D
Only difference is that the calipers are 4 pots NOT 6 pots

I'm running Chrysler Voyager 302x28 mm discs redrilled to suit the BMW stud pattern and Brembo 4 pots from an E38 728i fitted with a set of cheap and nasty (£22)brake pads with a stock master cylinder.
Took them on a 5000mile trip up/down/round the alps without any fade and they've been in the car for about a yr now and done about 25000 miles and pads are only about 1/2 worn.
Pads are the same fitment as a Nissan Skyline R33/R34
So that means there's quite a few pads compounds available from the different manufacturers.
Pagid/Mintex/Ferodo/Carbon Lorraine/EBC etc So plenty of choices available
These fit under 16" wheels
Pics are here
http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ght=brakes
I put this little lot together myself for about 1/2 the cost of an "off the shelf" kit
You could easily replace the 302 mm discs with 315/323/325/330mm discs destined for other vehicles as you have slightly more room than I did.
If you require more info please pm me or click the email link at the bottom of this message

Don't forget the time difference when waiting for answers. You're wide awake when most of us are tucked up in bed.

As for brake upgrades I've never found mine to be a problem. BadDave's setup sounds like a winner though.

Thanks
Found it to be a dramatic improvement over standard.

BHP means nothing, other than you can get to big speeds quicker. I bet his 6cyl turbo weighs a fair chunk more than your motor and thats what will be killing his brakes.
