i have a fli 800s amp and i wire it up and get no power.
its brand new so i tested it with a multimeter by putting the red wire of the multimeter on to the live cable and the black on to the earth cable and i got a reading of 12.44V
then i did the same on the remote switch off cable but only got a reading of 1.15V when the head unit is on, when its off i get nothing.
does this seem right?

I'm willing to bet major body parts that the remote lead also needs to be 12v. I appreciate it's a very low current required to turn the amp on, but you still need to have 12v.

Yes the remote should be close to +12v. Try tapping the remote from the live cable to test the amp.

It is meant to be 12v. It should be ok to tap the remote from the live for testing.
BTW, did you measure the 1.15v when the remote wire was connected to the amp or did you disconnect it from the amp first?

Taken from page 5 of the manual:
If the source (headunit) does not have a remote turn on cable then a 12v supply should be used.
If you only have 1.15v coming out of the headunit on the remote lead, then you have problems with the head unit, not the amp.

when i fitted the remote wire i spliced into a wire coming out of the back of the connector for the headunit, it said wire 10 was the remote on/off wire so i think what i did was correct

Did you check the remote voltage at the ISO connector?

Did you check the voltage at the point the wire is spliced, i.e. at the back of the head unit?
It could be there is a fault in the splice or the wire running to the amp.

You should be ok using the earth wire on the headunit connector.
If the headunit remote out is faulty, you can run a separate wire with an in-line switch from a +12v supply as Ian mentioned earlier. If you do this the amp will need to be switched off manually using the switch.

Another option is to use the electric aerial trigger wire. This also gives 12v when you turn the head unit on (although some units only power this wire when you listen to the radio).

I've just read through the manual, and it makes no mention of when the aerial goes up. It does however have this comment against the aerial power wire:
NOTE
This lead should be used only for controlling the
vehicle's power antenna. Do not use this lead to turn on
an amplifier or a signal processor, etc.
Best not use it for the amp turn on then

right i have power!
for a number of seconds
so what happens is when i turn the radio on and the aeriakl goes up i get power in the amp. when the aerial goes down i have power in the amp. if i disconnect everything from the back of the headunit and connect it all back up and push a button in that i have to stop the aerial coming up it gets constant power but as soon as the aerial operates i lose it again.
even if i keep the button in after using the aerial once it still does the same thing.
basically it only has power with the aerial going up or down....what a gremlin this is. i have tried 2 different head units all voltages are correct......im going to go carpet chewing mad soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
