early high comp engines

Um... easiest way's probably to look at the ECU - if the number ends in 073 it's on early (1.1?) Motronic, 173 is late (1.3?). They swapped at the same time as the high / low comp lumps... I expect you can tell from engine numbers too, but I don't know how exactly!
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
checking the ecu numbers isnt conclusive.
Ive had open at least 2 motronic managed m20's that have the early high compression pistons in them and ive spoken to others that have found the same thing.
I would think the way to tell without removing the head would be to measure the compression perhaps???

have a look at the plug that the reset tool goes into, its by the inlet manifold towards the front end of the car, the pre face lift one is small and D shaped face lift one is larged and round
that way you can tell at a glance. hope this helps.
