Hi all ,been a while since i have posted but still keep an eye on things :mad: anyway here is my problem , RUST , well not so much me as my car :D i have had my brillant red 4 dr se for about 9 years and most of the old skool guys will know the car , Ant ,Ian ,Ste ,Adam ,Sal etc etc it was in tbmw jan 04 and also at a santa pod meet in 03. anyway rust has finally caught up in all the usual places :cry: and im not sure what to do with it ,its too expensive to repair so not sure if i should sell up complete and buy a nice standard car or maybe a cab ? or break it as best i can altough i still have to be able to move it coz of the position of my garage, and save the bits for another shell ? i dont have the room or funds to buy a donor car as i have just bought an 36 sport as daily transport . i had planned an m30 conversion and have most of the bits ready for it as well as a z3 short shift and big brake kit and i have added so much to the car over the years ,here is a quick rundown;
black sport leather ,mtech 2 wheel,illuminated mtech gearknob with leather gator,leather handbrake gator and grip ,ctr armrest ,obc,cruise ,illuminated mirror,rear shelf blind,eibach arbs, springs and strut brace , e36 m3 rack ,e36m3 rad and electric fan, hartge rims, chip ,bbtb,magnex exhaust, almost new bridgestone so3s, genuine lwr arms with offset bushes etc.

what would you do ? cheers paul.

Hi Paul !

if she is too far gone then its breaker time, but what a shame dude, nice car, rust or otherwise :cry:

A donor shell is the "easy" answer but thats time and £Â£ comitted over and over again.

I've had much the same trouble with my 2.7, rust had just taken too strong a hold on the shell.

I was sorry to do it but broke her up and scrapped the shell, I've kept the good bits like the engine and suspension etc and sold the rest.

I've almost made back the money I needed to buy a mint 325i Touring, this now has the 2.7 engine and adjustable suspenders as well as all the gadgets I'd collected for the other car.

It only took me 1 weekend to reduce the old car to a bare shell and have it taken away to the crusher so you shouldn't have it taking up much space for long.

Break it and buy another with the proceeds.

Cheers,

Iain T

HI Paul,

The last time I saw that car is was beautiful.

You've got all the right bits, maybe a reshell would be a good idea?

If you do decide to sell all the bits, I may be interested in the big brake kit :)

i had the same prob with my 325i sold it and got a 91 320ic rust free for the time being...
could have kept it and spent a lot to keep it in crisp condition but decided to advance to a cab, life goes on...
