I had the same thing last time I took the instrument cluster out.
I thought the front wheels were dead ahead and put the steering wheel on accordingly but it's not untill you're driving you notice just how far out it is.
Do it by trial and error would be my advice. Why not take the socket and bar out for a drive. It's only a 20 second affair getting the wheel off so if you find a quiet stretch of road you should have it sorted in 5 mins

Yup, a quarter of a turn really doesn't move the wheels much with our steering racks! Easiest way I find is to just find somewhere you can drive in a straight line & stop without turning the steering wheel; then you *know* the wheels are facing straight ahead

That is the answer though! You need to park somewhere when you know the wheels are straight, and then remove and replace!dazleeds wrote:Ziggy wrote:Yup, a quarter of a turn really doesn't move the wheels much with our steering racks! The flexible disc betwwen the two joints in the lower column must be worth inspecting but otyherwise all I can think of is tighteing the column nut is turning the column before the spiles on the steering wheel hub engage with those on the column.
Drive onto a quiet road, and with the wheels straight, reposition the steering wheel and push the wheelhard on to the column while tightening the nut.

just cause you think it looks straight doesnt mean it is.. go for a drive in a straight line then stop without moving the wheel.. i had similar with mine
