E32 735i/750i master cylinder. 25mm and a direct replacement for the E30 one. Ignore the bit in the link about needing to change a brake pipe as that only applies to the E30 M3 - the regular E30 master cylinder has 2 10mm fittings, same as the E32 one 8)

Yeah i'd read that but couldn't find one at the time and the guy had an E34 25mm at hand so thought i'd give that a try, so now i've blown the budget on that. (£10 :mad: )

Well it gets a bit confusing. The short answer is no, but maybe.... The Girling master cylinder from the E34 has the same part number as the Girling one for the E32 730i/735i from '88, but the earlier ATE one from the E32 (same as the 750i) doesnt match any of the E34 part numbers.
Some of the E34 M/Cs have the same part number as the E36 M3 Evo M/C with the M10/M12 fitment :mad:
There must be so many variations, it would be difficult to say whats what.

Its the ATE M/C from the E32 750i that fits the E30 - P.No 34 31 1 156 643
The E32 750i one will bolt straight onto the E30 servo as a direct replacement for the E30 M/C.

The E34 one may fit with a bit of work, but as Martin said, it could catch inside the servo.

what kind of braking improvement will yo u be looking at with the new master cylinder?

i cant remember off the top of my head how to do the leverage and force calculations

Firmer pedal with less travel compared to the E30 setup.
In the link I posted above, the guy is talking about a 13% reduction in pedal travel and so a 13% increase in pedal stiffness/effort needed. That is comparing the E32 25mm to the E30 M3 23mm M/C and not the smaller E30 M/C, so the gains will be a little higher.

yep,i used the audi one as its a direct fitment into the smaller golf servo im using,but at 25mm the same :mad:

Although they are used they look to be in good condition.Mine were unused btw.

I was just about to get some brackets made to fit the E46 calipers but had other ideas and thought i'd see if i could get the Merc calipers.
Guy in East London had a set for £60 but when he dug them out held his hand out for 120 quid and said the 60 was for 1. So after i actualy laughed in his face and called him a tit he refused to drop the price.
You can get a set from GSF for a ton, but no carriers :mad:

So, it's still on hold :(

gutted! how come you think these merc calipers will fit? what they from? will they need brackets? if you dont use the E46 ones, you'll be selling them wont you winkeye

what M/C did you go for too?

Mercs are a 57mm piston and designed for the 25mm disc. The E46 set are 54mm and the carrier had to be "customised" to get over the disc. They both use a pad with the same sized backplate but neither of them cover all the disc so now i'm trying to find an Audi set that normaly go with these discs with the wider pad :x

Top 1 is E200/E220/E300 bottom is E46

so how wide is the audi tt disc? in what way did you have to 'customise' it?

The E46 carriers are too small to fit over the disc so you just grind a couple of mm out of the inside, trouble is then you have to do the same with the new pads or use one old one new for a while.

Must admitt, I would rather have some nice 4 pot Willwoods behind my wheels than rusty old calipers from a 5 or 7 :cool:
I am running the rusty 7 series calipers and some MERC500 disks on my M3. Is doing quite well actually and for £150 max cost for the whole setup with new disks I am not that bothered about Wilwood looks. If you go for 4 pots make sure you have the right wheels to clear the outside pistons. Or buy enough spacers.
And there is also black paint to cover the rust :D

Stu i take it these are the ones. You'll need the carriers and if they don't interfear with the bolt holes you'll still need to get some brackets made.
I've knocked some up out of MDF for now :mad:
Any more on offer or the chance to borrow them so i can have a measure up ?

I don't think that's the case. You can't change anything on your car in Germany without TUV approval. If you modify brakes, wheels, suspension (only to name a few) you have to go to a TUV centre to get it approved and written in your logbook. Without that your car is not road legal and the cops will fine you (points!)and no insurance either.

Usually all parts sold for modifiactions do have a TUV approval as such (applied from the manufacturer of the part) which will help you to master the TUV test once fitted to your car (prove that it is the right part for your car, but even with the correct paperwork you may not pass if the Inspector isn't happy with the install)

There is still the possibility to get your own single TUV approval.There is always a way if you know the right people. Some TUV testers are a bit more flexible than others or just more educated in certain areas.
And this is what he is referring too. There is no guarantee that your DIY conversion passes the critical eye of an TUV Inspector.

The proper TUV approval is a very costly process only manufatureres usually apply for with a decent numbers of parts to be sold once approval is granted.

There is also something called ABE. This is making the whole process much more easy for the consumer because parts with ABE do not need a individual TUV test or registering in your logbook. But that's another story....

I know, a long write up. Hope I haven't bored anyone to death but I think it's important to point that out. There is a lot of angle grinding in some of the 300.de kits. winkeye
