Helllo Kam
In my 89 cab i have one 12ich sub
these cars are one of the worst cars to get bass into the cabin because of the metal plate behind the seats.
a sub box works with the bass coming out of te back of the box
so ideally for the con vertible you need to get the box in the middle of the boot to give an even sound around the car
regards
Ben

Hello mate,
for reasons put 1 12 in because the boot is a sealed enclosure its self there is not enough air space for two 12's it probably sounds good
but i would sound better with one sealed 12 in the middle with the subs facing away from the passengers
Are you coming to the Surrey meet i will have a proper think as i would need to know a few details
What Subs?
What size box have you got ?
Are the subs in seprate box's ?
Let me Know as my sounds Knowledge is pretty much endless
Regards
Ben

mine deffo sounds better with the speaker facing away, but my box port fires to the side (on the side you cant see in the piccy). I also experimented with running vent pipes throught the rear bulkhead holes, under the seat and out just under the rear seat to try to improve breathing but didn't really work, i now find the best thing is to drive around with my boot slightly open!!!! if anyone else has any better breathing suggestions let mw know, my final idea was to find a mtech 1 rear spoiler and cut holes in the boot lid and hide em with the spoiler, a bit extream i know but planned to practice witha scrap boot. will let you know, njust need to get a spoiler!!

i have got an Mtec 1 spoiler for if yo want it but i believe this won't help the best way is to cut a hole in the cak panel around the centre anp put a rear strut brace in to compensate for what you cut out. But believe me it is just better to Buy
2x 5 1/4 component sets and set the graphic equliser on the front rear speakers so that the mids only use up from 125 Hz to about 6khz and let the tweets take the rest this will give some deep defination to the low frequencies comming from the sub in the boot

Yep got 2 Clarion 6inch in passenger footwells, and two Pioneer 5 and a bit inch in the rear panels, all amped up, just changed my dashboard (never never attempt that by the way!!!) and soundproofed the passenger footwells at the same time. The system sounds good inside the car, plenty of bass but lower-midrange lacking slightly due to only haveing small speakers inside. The main reason for attempting to vent the boot is to stop the rattles from number plate, bumper etc etc. with the boot door slightly open bass is deep and rich and no rattles, with closed all the panels flex and the bass is obviously muted somewhat!! cheers for the m=tech 1 spoiler offer but i am in Bahrain which is about 7 hours by plane, too far to come for a spoiler!!!!

Good that you sorted it out Cam but which way is the speaker facing and do you also have trouble with vibrations from number plate etc??!!!

I just put rear headrests in so while the seat foam was out i turned the speaker toward the passengers, bass was not as good but less rattles and a considerable amount of air coming throught the vent holes which are normally blocked by the seat foam. Me thinks its time to resurect the port under the seat system. Even though less bass the lack of car boot vibrations makes the music sound better.

well what i did first was to face the subs away, that made such a difference!!
then a mate and i bridged both subs on one amp connection and up'd the fuse amp too, then after some tuning the thing pounds

the number plate surround shakes like mad!! and when the roofs closed the mmechanism vibrates too, so il have to stick the plate surround down more secure

any suggestions?

i stuck this padded tape thing on the back of my number plate and the surround. its a foamy sticky tape. it worked well as when you screw the plate back in the foam is squeezed and it holds tight to the body so there is no room for vibration.

Also the inside the boot - the carpet bit which goes up the sides vibrates as it hits the body. the bit around the backside of the lights. i just stuffed a bit of cloth in. . i soon will hopefully dynamat the whole thing, but there is not much rattle

I'm considering making a 4th order bandpass box and putting the port through the rear seats.

Has anyone tried this before? as this seems like the way to go, as the bass will only have one place to go (in the cabin).

bass is omni directional as long as you get air to cabin the port could be anywhere.

I removed the backing plate and put the foam number plate adhesive foam on a few places and that sorted the major rattle, at high volume the boot rid rattles ever so slightly!

Yeah i tried the port into the car thing but didn't really work as i think i made it too small. i also tried several different sub positions and facing into and away from the cabin. i got rid of the hot air blower behind my rear seat (and power the sub from that source BTW, cool as you can turn it off from the rear demister switch in dodgy areas!) Since readin this post i have tried again and i went back to facing into the cabin, i removed the rear seats and all the carpet in the boot to see if that would allow it to breathe but still rattled all over the place i even took out the spare tyre, and remover the rubber grommets in the roof storage compartment but it still rattled like hell!!! the point i really am tryin to make is unless you cut huge holes in your boot it will not breathe enough and i am only running one 12inch JBL, bridged accross one channel of a 650W amp (thus 300ish W) so just pad the back of anything that rattles and position the speaker to sound best inside the cabin.

I wonder if it make sound better if i just filled the boot with matteress foam or something???

Hmmm
