E reg 325 worth with 95k, fsh, mot Nov 05, tax July 05, silver, 4 dr, full electrics, totaly standard, immaculate (seller say's, haven't seen it yet), guy's had it 12 yrs, dont know if it's the sport or not.

Or if the sport only come's as a 3 dr then it's not one!, now this is the 12v, because the 24v (M50) didnt come out till 91', is that right. This is all I know about this at this moment.

yeah, sports were only a 2dr saloon. and they only had the 12 valve m20 engine, not the 24v m50 unit.

also the sport has black headlining and should have map reading lights in the rear view mirror. however if it is good it should still be a good car, don't be put off by the milage, so long as it has been maintained well then there should be no problems. keep an eye out for rust around the battery tray, and the empty spot under the bonnet where they would normally sit(drivers sdie near windscreen), around and under the arches, the bottoms of the doors, under the sills and around the rear lights. also check for any damp carpets in the footwells as these can be signs of hidden rusted through patches in the inner arches/blocked sunroof drains etc. make sure everything look sstariaght and then just check everything else over as you would on any other car. good luck, i hope it is as good as he says it is.

hope that helps you a bit :thumb:

From a service history point of view, you'be better to have a high miler, say 150k+ with full service than you would a low miler with sod all.
I see yours has history, but just worth noting anyway :D

Phase one or two means which style of E30.

Phase 1 was made upto October 87 and than it was restyled and the phase 2 was launched, also in October 87,so given your one is on an E plate it could be either.
Does it have metal or plastic bumpers?
This will have an effect on its price.

SeriesII have galvanised bodies and are a better bet as far as rust is concerned. Remember it's an 18 year old car you're buying so it's probably always going to need something doing to it! Hope it turns out to be a good one!

If you mean what if it's a phase 1 and he's put plastic bumpers on it, there's another obvious way of telling:

Phase 1 will have smaller rear lights...
Image

...and phase 2 will have larger ones:

I now know it's a phase 1, so it's worth around Ԛ£700-900,

BTW, what's the main diffirence with this and the sport apart from one being a 2 door, are the engine's the same.

The engines are the same.

Main differences are the gearbox with altered ratios, and the M Tech bodykit.

Not too relevant but might be interesting....phase 1's are generally faster than phase 2's due to the higher compression ratio :D

Not due to compression - the earlier cars are lighter where they have rusted away  :giggle:

Personally I really like the early cars, the old skool chrome really sets them off, and I prefer the rear lights - I just couldn't find a really clean one when I was looking.

The phase one will be be faster as the early engines have higher compression.

I think a mint metal bumper phase 1 looks superb.

Oh and an equivalent sport is worth Ԛ£3500 more.

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Some thing are worth more to some than others.

I would pay upto Ԛ£2000 for a MINT 325i. If it means not spending Ԛ£1500 at a body shop I would rather pay that for a car and no go through the hassle of getting an average one painted to look like a mint one.

The way people here are devaluing E30's here they wont be worth Ԛ£5 soon.

What condition 325i would you get for Ԛ£800? Surely not a mint one. IMHO "mint" = low mileage, FSH, rust-free, good paint, nothing needs doin' for a while.

I was looking for a 6 pot E30 a month ago and all the 325i I came across in the Ԛ£400-Ԛ£800 range were at best average (most were a lot worse) with long list of defects. Ended up buying a chrome 320i which is near mint and paid top whack but hopefully no big expenses for a year or so.

You get what you pay for.

No one's de-valuing E30's here... it's just the way the market is going. Early E30's are now bargains. 18 years old and not worth very much, except to those who REALLY like them.

I think you got a good deal.

If you can buy an e30 325i SE for under Ԛ£2000 which needs no work, has no rust and the paint is good then you have a bargain.

Agreed, M5pilot, even though it's not in my interest to talk UP the value of a 325i as I might want to upgrade my 6-pot soon.

bennyp - IMHO condition is key for an E30 (or any 15+ years old car which hasn't hit the big time), unless you've the time and skill to do most of the repair work yourself. Ԛ£1,500 sounds like a good price for a seriously good 325i.
