Disconnect the motors in the boot, then just operate manually!
If you look in the boot and remove the trim panel beneath the hood storage area, you'll see the two off motors, both can be disconnected by using a screwdriver in the release mechanism. Take a look, it's quite obvious what you need to do when you see it...

the only issue in treating the hood as manual is in locking down the horseshoe lid - if you leave the lid-motor connected, can you run that by itself (so it locks the lid down with the 'claws')??
I have had the motors dissconected , but as suggested the horseshoe lid will not stay down. When the fitter looked at the motors he noticed that the hood had been converted to a electric hood using a lot of non BMW parts. This is probably why it kept braking. I now need to find a convertible in a breakers yard to get the hood release and locking mechanisms. Can anybody HELP , cos i have rung loads of breakers up but had no luck yet.
I was at a breakers yesterday in Alperton, West London, yesterday & saw a red cabriolet sitting on top of another car, looked pretty complete..
The breaker is situated right next to the A40 (Western Avenue) coming into London on a slip road in between the old Hoover factory (now Tesco's) & the Hanger lane junction...
Could be of use to you if your fairly local.

get everything you can imagine off of it (cabbie related) - the yard will probably charge the same anyway, and this stuff is rare.
Of course it is all available from BMW still.

If your asking me ,I live in Hillingdon, I suppose its not too far from surrey, I would love to but time & space permits...fowler wrote:you can do it are you local to surrey chap !!!
Dont know what part of Surrey you live in , but if you can catch the M25 northbound ( towards Heathrow) join the M40/A40 towards London at juntion 16, I think... its only another 15 minutes from there.
I am located near Manchester ,so a trip to Surrey would be a last resort . I have been to Halliwell Jones in Warrington and they said that they will have to e mail BMW in Germany to see if they can get the bits.
