Cheeky "M3" idea

so i had the brake disk off today, and saw what actually holds the wheel on, a bearing.. ok, so what u say? fair enough but what if...........

u replace the 4 stud bearing with a 5 stud bearing, Get 5 stud discs and lo and behold an e30 with 5 studs

or is it not that easy

nah, the discs and gubbins are all gettin changed because i had a seizure on the back caliper and both rear discs are dead so i have a little project goin

but wouldnt that be soo easy if it could be done

I've always wondered about something similiar, it just seems crazy that you've got to change everything over from an M3 to have 5 bolt hubs. The actual hub itself looks very simple (when stripped down) and I've always thought about seeing if I could get new hubs machined identical in dimensions but with 5 holes rather than 4???? would this not work or am I just being

I don't see any reason why you couldn't, maybe you could also get studs instead of holes at the same time? Unless you prefer the holes but studs make wheel changing a lot easier. I think cost is probably the main problem.

If you just want 5 holes/studs then you could get spaces. The good ones have holes to bolt onto the hub (permantly) and studs on the other side. I have some on my car, they are only 4 stud but I think you can get ones with 4 holes to bolt to the hub and 5 studs on the other side. But then you have to change your wheels .

Now I'm working on doing a 5 stud conversion on my 325i basically I think I need the rear hub off a 2.0 Z3, the bearing size is different between normal e30's and the M3's but you can whack on the E36 fron suspension and steering and that will give you a quick rack at the same time.

The rear wheel bearings are the same for the M3 and the 325i, and probably all the other E30s. So in theory you could just change the rear hubs for 5 stud versions, but you would need to sort out 5 stud discs to fit etc.

The front bearings are different. So you would need to go the E30 M3 or E36 front strut route.
