//M Badge ettiquette?
Moderator: martauto
True, only proper M cars ie M3/5/6/MCoupe/Roadster should have the badge, there needs to be a difference to keep the M brand special.PeterS wrote:I think BMW themselves have devalued the ///M brand/badegs by offering 'M Sport' versions of everything from a 116i to a 550i. All of these come as standard with a minium of 'M' badged wheels & steering wheels...
However, I'm still of the opinion that only 'M' cars (and I don't include M Sport in that) should wear the badges...
Just my thoughts...
Peter
i bought a e34 525i, with M5 all over it, front, back, under the door handles, i said to him it's not a m5 tho, he no it's just a sport but it looks good tho, i was yeah right ok but when upside something worthey of the m5 juice all i got is 525i sport juice... that'll look good

My 325i se auto is going to be fitted with a mixture of 3.2 M3 engine, E30 M3 struts, MCoupé Gearbox, Brakes, trailing arms, diff, E30 M3 interior and 328i sport wheels.
Is it getting an M badge? No.
Considered '332iS' (even worse, 'S' badge snobs to offend!!!!, better still; '//M332iS') but the car looks so boggo on the outside (intentional, fitting black iS lip spoiler and leaving the non body coloured bumpers and trim) that I'd run the risk of looking like some goon who has slapped 17"s on his council wagon and thinks he's got himself an M3 eater.

You don't put a Nike Swoosh on a pair of Hi-techs.
I am a labels snob. Let people do what they want. If they want to draw attention to their stupidity then so be it. Imagine seeing someone with Nike badged Hi-Techs? Imagine wearing Nike badged Hi-Techs!!!!
Like wearing fake burberry baseball caps, these are a source of amusement! Just sit smug in your superior knowledge that they are prats! If you build a replica car, ie swap all your bits over for sport bits, in effect recreating a sport, then the badge is part of the replica look, go for it!! The 4 door M3 look a like is let down by the exhausts.
Who cares about brand devaluing, so long as those enlightened folk in the know, free from ignorance, know their stuff and can differentiate.

I hate labels. The first designer label I remember everyone going crazy about was LaCoste in the 80s. People were going mad for that little crocodile on a polo shirt. I thought it was ridiculous then and I think its ridiculous now. The badge isn't what makes the shirt/shoes/car/computer/suit - its the design and manufacturing that goes into it. Real quality doesn't need a badge at all!

Most decent labels have understated branding, but a descernable increase in quality, even if they're manufactured in southeast asian sweatshops!

An interesting thread..........I've debadged my Touring as I have with all my cars in the past, apart form my Saab 900 Turbo. I'd like a nice grill badge and have seen one with the German flag colours.......think that's acceptable. ;)

eko hs one, looks good!!!
I Quite like an m badge on the grill, nice and subtle in my opinion. Not liking them on the boot and it has to be something with decent poke, ie 325 sport or 2.7 etc etc.
People with 318i's that have m badges look like tossers. It' like me putting an rs badge on my fiesta 1.1, I'd look like(even more of ) a twat

I Like the look of the 'M' bages so I fitted them an I don't give a toss what anyone else thinks (It's my car). Plus people who aren't in the no always say 'nice M3'. LOL

no.
If it didnt come out of the factory with them, its not an mtech car, so shoudlnt have mtech badges.
Its as bad a cossie reps, putting a whaletail and cossie kit on a 2.0gl sierra doesnt make it a cossie. Just like putting mtech steering wheel and gearknob on a 318 doesnt make it an mtech car.

until you come up next to a real one and get blown away by it. Leaving you looking like a numpty and wishing you'd kept your ego in check and not put a fake badge on it.

If I'm pulling away normall and some tw*t blasts off the line next to me I usually think, "who the f*ck does he think hes racing?"
