The body and paintwork are very good on my sport but was inspecting her this evening and copped some blistering under the paint on the passenger side wing, just around the side repeater,Is this a common rust spot?other side is perfect.also is it possible that it's not rust but a reaction in the paintwork as same area is solid?thanks guys.

I don't think thats a common place for them to rust...but it does have potential to retain water behind the repeater if it as not sealed properly in the past.

When I replaced mine they were clean as a whistle. Not sure about the paint reaction ?

Undersealing on E30s is very tough, and rust doesn't spread under it like certain other cars (possibly with oval blue badges on them), but they are made of steel, and if the paint or underseal is damaged, they will rust.
Not a common place to rust, (wings usually go at the front under the bumper or right at the bottom at the back), but the edge of the hole for the repeater may have been chipped at sometime by someone removing or replacing the repeater.
Good news on E30's, is that you can find a hole rusted right through, but the metal 1/2" away can be as new.
