Has anyone else done this?
My torque wrench only goes up to 300Nm, which is an awful lot anyway.
Do I need to hire a torque multiplier to do this one bolt up?
Torque on the front pulley bolt!!?

It says in the haynes book that the front pulley bolt needs to be done up to a wopping 420Nm!
Has anyone else done this?

When building the 2.7 I had this problem too, a mate from the zone lent me a torque multiplier (5:1 ratio) and it was dead easy.
However after removing the 2 litre engine I turned the motor backwards by this bolt and it came undone, must have been about 30Nm
So I removed the bolt out of the 2.7 bought a new one (Ԛ£4) and installed it with a little loctite to stop it working loose.

yep use threadlock
do it right or you risk damaging the crank nose if the pulley comes loose and you continue to drive it. not likely but a big pain if it were to happen!
shouldn't need to get the torque spot on though, just use a long bar

I'd almost be happier if they'd said "Front Pulley Bolt: Fcuking tight"
Well, it too the mass of my ol' man on my long breaker bar to get it undone, so I'll wait untill he's eaten and get him to do it up again

that oughta do it!
the m30 one is even tighter, i used an old propshaft on the end of my bar and it didn't come undone after that (mine came undone to start with and killed the woodruff key that fits the hub to the crank.) get a new key from bmw if you can, they cost about 2p!
