when i drive my car from cold the rev counter jerks up and down when you rev. but i noticed recently that after driving for a few hours the rev counter works but also the engine revs more freely.

sounds like the s.i board.

this is inside the instrument cluster. due to the age of these cars, failure is common. they contain batterys which leak with old age.

source another cluster from a scrappy, or ebay. 20 notes should do it.
