Steering wheel sizes?
Moderator: martauto
I have been thinking about getting a smaller aftermarket steering wheel for my sport for some time.
I use my car mainly on roads but with the odd track day now and then and was wondering what is the best size to go for?
I have heard of people fitting smaller wheels and not being able to read parts of there instruments, i want to still be able to see what my speed and revs are lol.
What size wheel are you guys using and can you recommend any good budget wheels.
Cheers

Nice one Eko, did it make much difference to the feel of the car using a smaller wheel?
Anyone using smaller than 365mm?
Anyone using smaller than 365mm?
Quality, so worth the swap then!
350mm too small?
350mm too small?
haha, nice one. No idea what the tech1 wheel is (diameter of a small planet?) as i don't have my car but anything has got to be an improvement on that.
I'm thinking about jacking in my Momo Race wheel to get a Suede sparco dished number - would you be interested in it? Probably looking for £85 without the boss, they're £146 new from Demon Thieves:

Its in superb condition, previous owner bought it from new, he only had the car 6 months as a track car, and i've had it another 6 months and had it out on track 3 times. P.M. me if you're interested and can send some photos and the like...

Def worth the swap - mines 360mm and it covers parts of the gauges - but leaves 11oclock to 2oclock on the revs visable same with the speedo. Got mine on a non PAS - a little more grunt to turn but makes shifting it around a damn sight easier. Also its not got 15-20 years of wear on the vinyl/leather so it doesnt slip through half way into a bend.
330mm I found to be perfect
please contact admin with regard to sig
Cheers for the input guys, ill probably play safe and get a 350mm wheel when the time comes.
Ed, Yeah.. for go karts. Spend the extra and get a leather jobbie. I got an momo alpina ish 3 spoke with horn pad thats about 360. Just covers the top of the dials. My momo 4 spoke has thinner rim, but at 365, I can see all my dials.
The 3 spoke feels so much better.. its thick!!!
For sale btw

I was looking at those Ed, looks good in the small pic but in the bigger pic with box behind it it doesnt look so hot, still at that price.....
I may go for that though or something similar, i think between 330mm and 350mm will be spot on.
the bigger pic looks odd because the horn push retainer has been put on the wrong side of the wheel, it should be flipped over and put between wheel and boss.
looks a decent plain wheel, however i'm not a fan of flat bottom wheels and would prefer an all round one!

You don't wanna (or I don't like it anyway) going TOO small, I find it more difficult sometimes.....for drifting and stuff.....although with power steering it'd probably be ok.

If you're not sure about the size - pop down to halfords, or somewhere else that stocks a few different size wheels and give them a try!!!!!
I've got the smaller schnitzer one - can't remember the size!!! Feels spot on!!
I had a stupidly small one on one of my minis though - found it good at speed, but awkward at low speeds and parking!!

Just thought id up date, i went for the Momo race wheel (350mm) in the end, fitted it today and well pleased.
it a fair bit smaller than the old tech 1 and a lot chunkier, it feels great and i can just see what speed i am doing.
Glad i didnt go any smaller, 350mm is just right for me.
Many thanks for all the advise
