Picked up the £97 Ebay Special. NOW WITH PICS
Moderator: martauto
Well, I travelled up to Northampton last night to collect the beast. Proved to be a chore of all chores!
Arrived at 8:15pm solid bar in hand. Find out it is missing its towing eyelet and I did not have a spare. So remove the brake cooling ducts to find some alternative metal to get onto. Hack my middle finger nail and the top of my finger off in the process. Blood pisses everywhere, including on the white paintwork. Much faffing about later I decide to bail on the idea of getting it to Cirencester. I ring my Dad with the "I'm in a spot of bother" line. Manage to blag his driveway 4 miles away for the rest of the week whilst I arrange a car with a tow bar and a trailer instead! WOOHOO.
Get the car back and find all is not what it said it was on Ebay. Needs a new lock set, new boot lid, new lump, bucket seat re-fitting, harnesses fitting and a couple of plates welding in to make 100%. I am sure the electrics are shot too, but we will have to see. For 97 bucks I cannot be too disheartened as it will break for more than twice that, so worth fixing and hanging onto as a cheap track toy until funds allow for an M3!
Pics and progress to follow...............................

Not bad..........about 5 minutes later than I was expecting to see that response
See here for pics that were posted on EBay. I am taking a load more on Sunday afternoon when I pick it up on the trailer.

Apparently for a truely gangster look yeah..................
I have sourced a new bootlid from one of the gang on here and a lump and rear screen. I am putting up wanted threads for the other bits I now need.

Don't...........the kiddy was bent as a 9 bob note, but I have dealt with his kind plenty of times. The paperwork matched up to the car and the plod left us alone last night so I am happy enough.march109 wrote:Q: Why is there bullet holes in the car ?

As for the bullet holes..............he belongs to a shooting club and lives in a village just south of Rohdes in Npton, so can imagine him and the boys were merely bored and shot the car when it went pop. It is just the tailgate that got it, the rear screen was done some other way.
Marvellous.
I have bid on these. Any idea what I should realistically expect to pay for a set?
Cheers

No I suspect he was emptying his bladder. Probably in to the fuel tank, on the seats?! Looks a bit pikey doesn't he!fugazi33 wrote:WTF is the old fella up to in the Egay pic? about to have a go in 1 of the bullet holes

Looks a fair buy - the wheels alone are worth more! The finger episode sounds painful though
I'd be interested to know more about the exhaust flame-thrower system
Don't suppose it came with a circuit diagram for it?
Cheers,

Exactly...................Plus I got a decent stereo out of it for daily use.
The flamer kit..............did not ask. Will be whipping that out working out if it works and selling it on, not my bag. I prefer exhaust gases to burn on the overrun, not by some gimmick in the car boot.

I remember that... was gona bid on it, but couldn't get a day off from work so wouldn't have been able to pick it up!!!!kadettc wrote:Not bad..........about 5 minutes later than I was expecting to see that response

bullit holes, mmmm this car aint a result in some drug dealing is it

Nah he was certainly not of that calibre. Just a bit of a wide boy that lived in the sticks. Tried skimming over a few blatant discrepencies when i went to collect it. Nothing major and I am not going to cry about it given the fact it was all of 97 quid. I have done some basic arithmatic and new engine was 150, lock set 25 notes, bootlid 25 notes, some service items including brake pads/fluid/fuel filter etc 100 notes, MOT 40 notes, Tax another 90 or so quid. Car is on the road and in semi decent condition considering................600 notes give or take. OK there is not a mountain of history, etc but it is solid, straight enough and will give 62 in 7ish, 135mph and a nice sounding note under the bonnet all for well under a grand legally. Cannot argue that for RWD fun.
Makes my Kadett look expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Right photos are on the way. I have to get a Manta out of my workshop this weekend, move the BMW into its place and photos of it AS IS will be posted up for all to laugh at/ridicule/compliment/visualise/yada yada yada.
The epic journey to Gloucestershire from Northampton continued last night. We turned up to my Dad's house after a 2 hour journey up from Cirencester with trailer in tow. Ordered Dominoes pizza en route. They arrived late. Hmmppphhh. Got the car loaded up and lashed down in literally no time at all! Left Northampton about 10:30pm after waffling to Dad for too long. Journey down the A45/A43/M40/A34/A40/A417/M5 ALL without incident. Got the car to Milton End and I completely forgot how to reverse a car with a trailer. Spent 10 mins Austin Powers stylee trying to get this stupid car to reverse down the side track that runs adjacent to the workshop. Smoothly my bum cheeks. Surprised the car did not pick itself up and plonk itself down to save any further embarrassment I could cause it.
Now the trailer I borrowed very hurredly was due back in a Village just outside of Cirencester and I needed to get it back. The last time I borrowed it I got a tug from the law as it was not carrying plates and some lights were missing. Funnily enough on this occassion the rules applied still. So we went up a back road to avoid Stroud and theoretically at least........the fuzz.
Dipstick took a wrong turning and ended up in Tetbury (another small town with fuzz presence). Grinned and beared it until we were JUST outside of Tetbury. A few miles back (Approx 2:00am) a Landrover drove past us in the opposite direction prior to entering Tetbury. To which I remarked "what are you doing up so late?" All was revealed as we left Tetbury. Landrover was an unmarked rural Police Car. Up went the Blues. Awaited bollocking.
Thankfully the guy was sound. He pulled us as it was 2:30am, there had been a spate of roof tile thefts in the area and I was in a black Defender with a dodgy trailer. I gave him a sob story that I was on company business and it was not my trailer. Took a lesson on the finer points of penalty points for defective trailers. I did actually learn something too so not using that trailer again. WORD.
Finally rolled home at 2:45am. Shattered. Hope the ruddy thing is worth it. Will have pics up Sunday night/Mon AM. Have got engine, rear screen, lock set, window rubbers, etc all on order for it. Hope to have it looking more fresh in the coming fortnight.

Some pics.
I spent yesterday remedying some faults. Fitted new rear screen and door seals, rear quarter seals.
I also took a sponge to it. Removed the boot and bonnet rubbers and had a good clean out. To be fair, for a car that has cost 97 quid to buy, I was expecting MUCH worse. It is still very solid even given the obvious neglect in areas in need of attention, and abuse of areas that did not.

And some other general shots to laugh at. No mid-mince shots from me though.

And there you have it for now. As you can see, some work to make it look respectable. Will have engine bay apart and replace/clean any suspect looking parts.

And yes on the MAIN rust shot................that IS daylight you see creeping it. I think of it as the E30 Chilli Pack upgrade.
Will br grinding that back and welding in a new plate to make good. Two spots on rear sills to be done too, but nothing too major.
On the bottom edges of the doors..........both have browned with rust. Is it worth rescuing them or merely binning doors for new ones?
It is not much, but in my opinion, if it has gone, it will continue to go. What is the general opinion on this item?

A firm local to me can offer powder coating services for the wheels. As I have decided to keep the beast, wondered what peeps think to either.........already done GLOSS BLACK BBS or KAWASAKI GREEN BBS. Going to have the Rocker Cover and Inlet manifolds done in black or Anthracite.
Discovered a set of cross drilled front discs on it which appear to be crack-free. The Rears look ok, but these will need some further inspection once I get the wheels off it next weekend.
