I tried to use the ccfl ones that you see on ebay
for £49.99
but they are designed for e36/46
so are a little too big
and the ccfl ones are glass tubes inside plastic tubes
so the plastic will flex to fit
but the glass wont
as I found out
the only option for the e30 really is
the depo ones that go for around £180
or if you can pick up a set of led ones
but they are not that bright
the ones I had in my sig
were e39 copies with fibre optics and
light boxes
but I have only ever found one set (I have them)
but they were soon ruined when local shit heads tried
to steal them and cut the optics

My friend at work has just bought from Ebay 4 plastic 7/8 rings with 8 leds and 4 resistors.
Instructions say one led in each end of the plastic rings with a resistor, wired in series.
No problem with this, all bits supplied, this is the easy bit.
I am guessing though that the glasses will have to come off to get the rings into the lamps - unless anyone knows otherwise. I would be delighted if someone could tell me how to get the rings in without major demolition.

Thanks very much for the reply Stu. I have seen something about removing the glass to smoke the lights, saw one for fitting the HID inners, but not for these.
OK, demolition it is then.
Cheers

Just wondering if you have any tips for doing this? And how long have the CCFL tubes lasted with them being outside their protective covers? Do they not rattle around inside the light? My girlfriend just got me some of these for my birthday, so I'm trying to work out how to fit them. I think I might get some new headlights first anyway as mine are battered to f**k - don't want to draw attention to them!DanThe wrote:I used ccfl's in my old lamps, I took them out of the plastic covers (very carefully)

I hope you're not using the word "gay" in a derogatory manner. Against the zone rulesmunky30 wrote:angle eyes are gay.
I happen to think they look pretty cool if done right. And my girlfriend likes them, so there!

zone rules my arse. Its not aimed directly at a member.
They even have a gay smilie...
And anyway, I'm using it in the old skool sense of things being gay. None of this homo crap involved or implied.
Why so defensive?
Any styling mod thats just ripped off from another car is gay, and chav. Such as lambo doors, lexus lights etc. So much so that the original manufacturers have stopped using them to disassociate themselves from the multitude of gay chavs that have them on their corsas.
imho... of course

Tourers are the future.
Anyway.... this is now breaking one of my zone rules.
'I will not spam topics in tech help as I rely on this portion of the zone heavily and dont want to taint my posts in here with the bullshit that the rest of my posts are tainted with..
So... back to the subject.
Angle aiiiii's are gay.
But to fit them you need to take the lenses off, 5 minutes with the wifes hairdryer got mine off.

Is that really all it takes? And then just thread the wires through the back and... join them into the sidelights circuit? Don't know my electrics that well - is it the kind of job I can do myself or is it an electrician kind of job?

And I don't think tourers are rubbish - think yours looks pretty good, though I think the original designers would have a heart attack if they saw what you'd done to their lovingly created design

I made a little girl cry today by starting it up as she walked past the back of it.. her parents looked angry.
And yep, just carefully prise the heated up lenses off and thread the wires through... you may need to drill a hole or possibly just use the hole that the original sidelights sit in. Then cut and splice the wires.
I believe a lot of the ccfl angle eyes come with a little inverter box thing to get the right power for them but its just a case of sticking that somewhere and wiring that into the sidelights.
At a guess.
