Hello people, i need some info on my front struts so i can get a quote for postage to germany.

Is the insert removable or are they one piece?
What are the approximate dimensions (without insert if it is removable)
How much does each strut weigh?

They're 51mm 325 stuts if it makes a difference.

Cheers people, Jon.

PS Here's a pic of my wagon with the cups and mirrors on at last.

Hi mate, not sure how much they weigh, maybe 4 or 5 KG each? But the shocks come out by undoing the big not on the top of the leg (beware they often snap off, making the leg useless)

The bare legs are about 80ukp each from C3 . (south london????)

You may be aware on the 325i legs (51mm) you can also fit the M3 Bilstiens which is a great improvment) These are about 120 ukp each I think, from C3 again.

Cheers Andy, I'm sending them to KW in germany as i'm after some V2 coilovers but they want the origianal front strut housings in exchange, hence i need to get a quote for shipping, and they want the dimensions and weight.

So, has anyone got a strut sitting in the garage they can run a ruler over for me? And stick it on the bathroom scales just to confirm what Andy said?

Pretty please?

Cheers Andy appreciated mate.

Jhonno, it's all about offsets and PCD's! Did i not have those wheels on when you came round a couple of weeks ago?

I'm currently using adaptors from H&R but will be making some of my own (nicely anodised a la the 911) once the suspension is sorted to move the wheels out a bit more.

And before anyone starts on about the wrongness of spacers, if it's done correctly it's as safe as stock.

Back on topic... strut dimensions (without insert) anyone??

Cheers.

yeah you had them, but i thought they were a spare set for the Porsche.. Not that i could imagine the brakes fitting behind them

I thought you might hav used spacers, altho i was expecting that you had knocked em up yourself already

lol, yeah i think the front disks might be a bit snug inside those 17's!

I will get round to making some myself, but i had some H&R's kicking about from a VW project a couple of years ago and i was desperate to see what the cup's would look like on the touring.

They're actually my daily driver wheels, i've got some 4-stud 17" Hartge splits to go on when the tourings finished (and when ive rebuilt the wheels).

Sorry bout the quality, it's the only pic i have of them on my car.

17" Cup 1's (or design 91's as they are officially know) are available in a range widths (7-9.5) and are most commonly low-pressure die-cast. They were also available in forged magnesium but only in 7.5 and 8.5 widths (they go for approx Ԛ£2k).

A set of 7's and 8's (same as mine ) will set you back about Ԛ£600 upwards from most specialist breakers, but if you know where to look they can be had for much less. I payed Ԛ£380 for mine, and sold the tires for Ԛ£100. So Ԛ£70 per wheel, which was reasonable i thought. Most important to me was that i had something individual on my touring, which isn't easy when it comes to e30 wheels.

Yeah i know what you mean bout indivicdual on the e30.. very hard as there arent many wheels that actually look good on them tbh esp the usual aftermarket shite

Its a bugger you've done them rims on yours now as it wouldnt be individual anymore

The search continues.. maybe i'll just spray the BBS's bright yellow..

YELLOW!!!

maybe if you diamond cut the lips...... actually no!

There a still loads of rims that haven't been used on e30's (look to the euro vw scene for inspiration) it's just a case of how much effort they take to fit.

Performance VW mag is always worth a read, especially if they've got euro show reports, Worthersee in austria is the best imo.

Oh, and does anyone have the dimensions for a 51mm 325 front strut (without insert) please!
