Sockets on rear of dash/dial board, and other probs

Hi all, just wanted to know what are the three sockets on the back of the dial casing. I have three one white, yellow, and blue. Both the white and blue have a plugs in the sockets but the yellow one has none.

Is this yellow socket for the motec? or an opitional extra.

Reson is i had just changed my steering rack (with a slight moddification to pipe work ) and also the oil needed to be changed as indicated on the dash board via the traffic light system, and my rev counter/mpg dial stopped working, so i thought there could be a loose wire behind the dials.

When i previously changed the oil the 'oil change' light when out of it's own accord. But not this time, i think i read somewhere that if the batteries in the motec are dead the lights stay on, is this correct?

I did also try using the shorting wire on the two pins in the socket in the engine bay to reset the inspection/oil change timer but that did not work either

Why is this? could it be just a flat battery in the motec?

Also does anyone have an idea about the rev counter/mpg dial, where does the wire come from? so i can find if there is a break in the wire.

Yellow socket is for the "On Board Computer".

From the description of your other problems (Oil Service Light, Rev COunter, MPG), it sounds like the batteries in your SI board have indeed failed.

mine gave up few weeks ago but all service lights work still

Daz - never had a problem with Rev Counter on it's own (ie. with working SI board), but am sure I remember Mr Mooooooore mentioning the C101 plug in the past. Worth a check.

Thought the si batteries might be the cause, will have a look.

Have looked at fuses but nothing has blown.

Which plug is the C101?

Your SI board batteries are dud and this may or may not be the cause of the dud tacho. Sort the batteries first and worry about the tacho then if it doesn't come back to life.
Did you disconnect the battery when you did the other work on the car? If you did, this dealt the final blow to your ailing SI board batteries.
Take the board out, stick it in the fridge for half an hour, and measure the voltage on the batteries. If they are the old AA sized ones, (which are the only sort that normally give trouble), they should be 1.2 volts each.
