You probobly could fit them to an M20 with a custom manifold,but thats either big bucks to have made or a lot of work if you can make one your self.
Unless you've got a well modded M20 these TB's might be a bit to big for the engine to make full use of the extra air.My M30 has got an extra liter of capacity over the M20 and the head has been flowed/ported and it's got a schrick cam so it can make use of the extra air and hope fully it(i'm hoping for 270bhp APX ??) won't be to far off the power of the M5(286bhp) that the TB's came from.
What ECU are you going to use ?
I have been working on the adapter plate this week end but it's hard work drilling and cutting 20mm thick alloy plate.
I was going to secure the plate to the head with the inlet manifold studs and nuts but the TB's get in the way of the bottom row of studs/nuts.I'm going counter sink a hole in the plate so i can use allen bolts,the head will sit in counter sunk hole.

Ian(H35-Ian)has kindly lent me an adapter plate that he baught on Ebay.de so that i can copy from it,thats the plate in the picture.
My head port's are a bit bigger and a differant shape compared to the engine the that the plate was from.

Plenty of grinding bits are going to be needed as the ports on the plate will need care full shaping as will the ports on the TB's.

Hi John,welcome to the Zone
A chap on here called Toby Unna has done the swap using an E28 M30 and i think you have to use the sump and the oil pick up pipe(for the oil pump)from the later E34 M30.
Have a read of this thread as it has got some good info.

That is exactly the sort of info I was looking for! And, it appears Tony Unna has my exact project there in photos, a 335 with a 316 badge - pure genius if ever I saw one - bring on the saxo bashing... and for that matter, the jap car bashing!
now i have my next problem... where to put my 3 series as well as my 7 series and my M535... dilema!! Oh well, until then I have a trip to London with a friends jap import MR2 turbo... which is unfortunately at the moment unrivaled for performance in my circle of petrol heads but rest assured it will be quaking in its boots when the 335 nears completion!!!

I have just read through all of the links andy left me above and there is some interesting conversions under way it seems. Glad to hear it thou as this is first time I have attempted anything like this. THe nearest I have been is doing and engine swap like for like in a fiesta... not quite the same considering you can pretty much lift the fiesta engine out of the top with just two people and no engine crane!
also, I hear the subject of engine mounts popping up everywhere. I know i need some specialist ones but where from?! also, possition 3 and 2, whats that all about?! I assume that the different engine possitions effect the weight dist. of the car and so the handelling?!?
was just wondering as well what you all do for a living and where you are from as I fear my budget might be a bit tight for this one as I am a student here in Loughborough!

I have a 1602 that needs to pass an MOT so I can take its number plate for my M535 as it says JJO 999 N. However this little car needs 'some' weld work which involves sils, chassis rail patching and the patchwork cusion boot finishing

P3 mounts the engine about an inch further back than P2.If you look at the M30 conversion engine mounts there is two hole choices for the rubber engine mounts to fit in to,ones for P2 the others P3.jonmsm wrote:

if it clears the bulkhead then y wud anyone want it mounted further forward, or do u have to do extra work to make it fit further back ?

I've got a replacement engine on its way to me this week and the head (touch wood) should be back this week as well,so i'll be back on the road soon !

thanks guys. I didn't realise that picture was actually from your engine... OUCH and yes, good job its not an S38 engine! let me know when your redoing the 335 as I would love to come help (even if its just as tea/ coffee bitch) to get an idea of the what i need to do as I will have much free time shortly (quitting my course and restarting the year as I failed my exams - damd things failed my engine technology module too, despite getting 97% in the coursework
)
Also, got my E30 from Jon this week, bloody nippy little thing even with a 2.0 in it! althought i left it for a good 24 hours and started it back up and you can TELL those stem seals are gone... got lots of oily smoke all over the M535!
p.s. if anyone wants to take a spin in a 535 (auto -
) let me know.. not as much fun as a 335 but oh well... doesnt mean I am not the drift king of Loughborough thou!!

my m535i is much more fun than my 335i because the 335i is sitting by the roadside sulking without an oil pump
seriously though i converted my m535 to manual from auto and it made it a lot quicker! even more fun to drift

Manual conversion... was that easy to do?? cos my auto gearbox is nothing short of annoying. makes drifting harder and thats never a good thing - hehe, and the kick down can be a little tempramental, mind you, when it does i get nothign but wheelspin up to about 40mph, fun fun fun!
I have a couple of pictures but I will have a better picture tomorrow. I am off back to Yorkshire to pick up my 730i on a trailer and bring it here to uni to work on it so my brother can have it, so I am going to get a shot of all three of my cars together, my 320, 535 and 730.. it will look ace.

which 730 is it, an e32?
manual conversion was easy, you just need a good donor car which unfortunately is rare. i put the dogleg box in mine but it's buggered (very noisy!) so i have an e34 535 manual box to put in instead.
auto to manual makes the car lighter and gives it more gears and closer ratios
but i do miss the ridiculously high top gear the auto had! it does about 3k rpm at indicated 100mph if i remember correctly, what a cruiser!

HOW much from ebay.... Ԛ£265. OMG thats cheap. She looks in immaculate condition! I paid a whopping Ԛ£920 for mine and I thought I had an ABSOLUTE steal for that money. Mind you it has an IMMACUALTE history and is in awesome condition bar the usual red fade (SO ANNOYING!). Still, I wont complain. I just got back from a night out and decided to take a detour via the A6 for a quick blast and its SUCH a smooth run up to 100+ and yes, she cruises BEAUTIFULLY at 3k rpm at around 100mph, and accelerates SO well up to god knows how fast from there as mr rude boy in his 'Renault 5 TURBO' found out when he tried to tail me down the fast lane last week... "TTTTTTTWat"
I have found ONE big problem with the 535 thou.. PARTS.. bloody impossible to get. I need a new OBC indicator stalk as the full beam likes to come on as and when it pleases and they are rarer than rocking horse shit! I also want the shadowline kit really badly as it looks so nice (either all chrome or no chrome at all I think and seen as I have the shaddowline rear lights might as well get the lot!) but i missed the only set on ebay last week i think it was
Also the tyres... OMG! Mine has the metric R390 wheels, Ԛ£250 PER CORNER for brand new tyres and more if I want to replace the 'Avon ZR's' it currently has. Need to get myself some nice imperial wheels like yours has as I can see this thing EATING tyres quickly!
The 730 is indeed an e32. Its SUCH a big car, its ridiculous! I paid just Ԛ£100 for it and it has the full heated electric leather seats in black.. they are GORGEOUS! Gonna have a good go at making her road legal again as she was sat for a good 3years before i got my hands on her.

I have a set of excellent cross spoke alloys for your e28! Including tyres. Currently fitted to my B9 3.5, I am having the Alpina rims refurbed, so once they are ready, my cross spokes are up for sale. 15" with 225/60/15 tyres on, all more or less brand new.

My B9 is in zinobar red, and was faded and oxidised, so as I ran out of time to do the work myself, I got a valeting firm to do it, now looks superb, just need to keep on top of it.
As for the OBC stalk, they are rare, but the problem you have is a common one, the switch can be repacked with electrical grease which restores the useability of the stalk, but there are quite a few cars being broken now that have these and Ԛ£20 max should pick you up another stalk.
What other parts do you need? As I have just broken a very rusty e28.

don't worry the car wasn't as much as a bargain as that! no mot no tax been off the road for 3 years and wouldn't start.
i had a 528i that i could pull bits off to find the problems and get it fixed up. i just got lucky, a new fuel pump got it running and the bodywork turned out to be near mint after several washes - never been painted and all panels perfect.

nearly bought a 735i a while ago,l love e32s, such an elegant shape for a big car! test drove a cheap 750iL once too but forced myself not to be so stupid as to buy it!
the wheels on mine are actually metric, paid 170 for the set with good tyres because i needed em in a hurry for an mot re-test! when the tyres wear out they'll get binned, they're 240/45/415 or something, off an m635csi

I found an AWESOME BMW breakers that specialise in old BMWs , E30's E28's, E24's and E32's - I bought a whole load of bits of an M535 that had arrived just this morning at the yard. By the time i got there the engine and manual box had already been taken out - VULTURES! however I was offered a refurbed M535 engine with 6month warrenty for Ԛ£500 which aint bad at all!!!
As for my e32 - check my post in pub talk 'crazy near misses'. The E32 nearly went for a sideways barrell roll down the M62 this afternoon...
not pretty. luckily being such a hefty old GIT the trailer & e32 was way to heavy to flip and so a nice 45mph 360degree spin was achieved with 3 tons worth of car, tower and trailer!
I think my first word was 'F**K' followed by a quick look for damage then 'Not be doing that again then...!'
