Oh damn! Are you going to be at that all day then? I was thinking I could pop down there for a bit but use most of the day doing the swap?

just found out that the rally of kent is no longer... cancelled for good unless the funding situation changes.
i guess i may be able to help out then!
has everyone remembered that it's mothers day on the 18th?
oh if you still need a throttle cable or anythig else M30 related (downpipes?), ripleys in hastings have a E32 730 in at the moment and the cable is in it still but i didn't have time to grab it for you...

Would be good if you could come round Gareth, I'm lucky on the mothers day side of things, my parents are away! I well may make a trip to ripleys to get those downpipes off the 730 for the m3 system setup. Throttle cable is sorted though, got a new one from BMW only cost £16.

5.8 litres according to the haynes jokebook, though it also says the oil filter for the M20 and M30 engines are the same which is utter shite!!!!! the M30 one is in a handly remote housing but the M20 one is a spin on canister.
coolant is 12 litres. don't spend a lot on coolant straight away as it'll be getting drained every time you need to pull the rad out, which will be often!!!

Thanks Gareth, useful info there - I'll add oil to the shopping list for next week.
I've just been playing around with a few things on the car, got a couple of questions about the fan/rad setup. Firstly has anyone fitted the fan offset towards the nearside? Would it be a worthwhile idea, mounting it here so more air is blasted on the hot side of the rad? What methods have people used to secure the rad (e28/24 in my case) at the bottom?

no idea on that mate, my E32 aircon fan was knackered so i used a (rare!) shitroen BX 16V (Mi16) twin fansetup i had lurking from a 205 Mi16 conversion. it fits very well once the grp surround is trimmed to size, unfortunately i forgot that the fans on the BX sit behind the rad (unlike the pug 205 etc) and once fitted with the correct polarity etc then blew air out of the front!!! i have reversed the polarity for now but the aerofoil on the blades is the wrong way round so it's not very efficient.
some 405 / 406 fans are on my shopping list as hopefully the blades could be robbed. these sit in front of the rad so go the 'right' way.... i hope!

I've just stocked up on milk and biscuits! Need to tie up the driveshafts to the underside of the body, then roll the car out from the muddy patch where it's sitting at the moment out onto the drive, but this needs more than 1 person so that might be the first job for us!

You'll make me blush Theo, nobody has ever called me a hero before except my mum!
Glad to be of assistance though, we all did rather well I reckon! And we had a laugh, and performed a few rather council type manouvres!
We were so busy I only managed three photos :

Yeah, that's what I thought, don't know why it's coming out like it though! Using my normal method but something's going wrong!
I might try and correct it later, I need a hot bath right now!

We did hammer the bulkhead a little with my sledge hammer on a 6 inch stick, but once the engine was sat in position, it looked as if it wasn't actually necessary. I would say that the engine is more p2 than the p3 I was expecting
