BMW 318i e30 1990 (H reg) M40

I have a in tank fuel pump (under the rear seat) that has sucked its last, and i am having trouble getting a new one.

I can get a very good discount from a friend so i have to buy it through him, the first pump that came was a external pump so that went back and i gave them the chassis number, the second pump came today and it looked the same so i fitted it, all went well and it was only when i went to connect the rubber fuel pipes that i realised that there was only one copper tube (feed from pump) to connect to i guess the other tube is the return but i have nowhere to connect it to.

So im now being told by the supplier that this IS the right pump for my car, but how can it be? am i missing something? help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the right pump but the wrong housing :?

Most facelift e30's I've seen have only 1 tube on the pump, the return is usually into the tank

Some, like yours have the return in the pump housing.

You'll either have to swap the new pump over to the old housing or get a good second hand pump or change the tank 8O

If there are two types of housing then can i not just order the other type with the return on the pump housing? this seems a lot less hassel than changing a tank.

Cars now running again, i got yet another pump (three all told) and this one almost fits the housing, but it comes with a extra lenth of fuel hose and clips to modify it to fit. The fuel outlet on the new pump is about 20mm shorter than the original pump and the hose is to bridge the gap.
