wont turn over, 2.7 first start

Hello, im a bit stuck. have just finnished conectiong up my 2.7 convertion and tried to turn it over to get some oil moving about. any way as i tried to turn it over i heard a small click like the sound of a fuse blowing. I then realised that a had the starter conected wrongly. (bothe of the small wires on the top terminal) i have now put this right. tought nothing happens when i try to turn the engine over! not even a klick.

Think a fuse has blown but not one in the main box, and cant find any others. might have damaged something! now very stuck.

Dash lights coming on? Is it not turning over at all?

yes dash light come on as normal but then not a saussage. might as well not turn the key the extra bit. Any one know of any other fusses, it in a 1990 320.

check the engine earth.

big up jonb, dident think that much of idea at first as i had conected the engine earth. problem was i connected it to the sump. thought about it for a bit and realised that there was no earth! it soplved the prob and the beast fired up for the first time!

only prob now is that there is a loud metalic tapping noise coming from the engine. more notable at idle.
