I found the discs by looking at this site but you only get 40 goes at looking before they lock you out, so by the time i'd found the discs i'd run out of chances.
If someone else wants to try and let me know the piston sizes for the 330i E46 master cylinder and the front calipers it would be a big help. thanks
this is the site, you have to follow it through to the buy online and then shop now. Remember, only 40 tries.

matt, it says the piston diameter on the caliper is 57.0mm...
and the master cylinder is....
...bloody thing wont tell me!! it just says "there is not a great demand for brake parts such as this within the first 2 years. This may be why the part is not listed"
what good is that!!
i'll have a look on TIS tomorrow at work and see if its on there
once we've got the diameter of the master cylinder, we can work on the leverage calculations to work out how much better the brakes will be

Cheers
If i can't use the master from the 46 i'll go for a 25mm from something else, i'm looking at the E34 at the minuet but i don't think it fits the servo

What is the distance between mounting holes on the hub carrier?
I may have a design for a bracket which will go straight on.
I have been supplying brake upgrades for Audis for the last two years. BTW
I've just got another E30 after a few years away and I am looking for some alloys 15" + so I can make a start with a decent brake upgrade. (hint)

Stu i was thinking of using the E32 calipers that are 60mm pistons, I think the 22mm master just won't cope with those calipers so i'm looking at the 25mm master
so by my calculations (more of a guess) it will change the bias from 70/30 to 66/33 but it should be ok because of the bigger discs at the front
The trouble is the calipers weigh 3kg more than the standard ones so if i can get the E46 calipers it would be a result, i'd probably have to use the 330i ones (25mm thick) to match the Audi discs.
According to that web site it says the pre-facelift E30 has a 20mm master and post facelift has the 22mm so anyone with a chome job could get a quick increase
E30318isbry, distance between the edge of the bolt hole or the centre of the bolt ?

i'd prefer to go with the E46 jobbies matt, just ourely for the unsprung weight you would save
i have a whole big document on brake force/leverage calculations upstairs that i had to learn for my Technicians. When i get the size of the master cylinder for an E46, i'll do some calcs for the E30 master cyl/E46 calipers and then for the E46 MC/E46 calipers
that way, we'll no what we're really looking at.
as i also said, the diameter of the discs is 300mm for a 325i and for the 330i its 325. will you fit them under the wheels???
E30318isbry - why do you want to know the dimensions? so you know how big to make a bracket? do you have the dimensions yet?

I made the brackets for these:

They are 18" wheels.
The guy with the S2, above, wanted stupid brakes so I made them fit. RS6 calipes and 365x34 floating discs.
I usually get Porsche monoblock calipers and make them fit anything.

Depends which caliper I need to use on the E30. There are quite a few different monoblock Porsche calipers about. The two piece calipers suffer from corrosion and flex, so I don't have anything to do with them. "Big Red" calipers are all knackered now as the stainless plates have reacted with the alloy.
A "standard" Audi S2 big brake kit with Boxster 'S' calipers and a 323x30 one piece disc works out at £600 with new lines etc.
I don't think we need to go that big with the E30 as it doesn't weigh 1600kgs.

Distance is 89mm centre to centre. Do you make the brackets yourself ?
Stu
i'm using the Audi 288x25 discs that should fit under the 15" bbs so i'd have to use the 330i calipers because all the other E46's have 22mm discs.
that or get grinding like i was planning to do with the E32 set

I usually modify a certain OEM bracket for the VAG market.
It won't work on this application.
I'll get myself a spare bearing housing and start measuring.

Yes - I'll need a hub, caliper and disc to make sure it fits.

I'm trying to use the Audi A4 1.8turbo discs, these have been bored out by 1mm to fit the hub.

A litttttttle bit off topic. What can your offer for a '93 100 s4 with the worst kind of brakes imaginable(UFO's)?E30318isbry wrote:Yes.Martinaston wrote:E30318isbry

Do they work by some kind of magnetism ?
F**k me i had better brakes on my pushbike as a kid when i used to put my foot on the back tyre.

unsure yet, as to what discs i would use. i gotta try and get the calipers first!!E30318isbry wrote:Yes - I'll need a hub, caliper and disc to make sure it fits.![]()

matt, if i were you, i would machine/drill 4 new holes for the brake disc/hib mounting and not 3, if its possible. then you can insure that all around the holes is strong solid metal and not just a hole into a hole, if you know what i mean
have you decided what calipers to use?

Stu its not the bolts that stop the disk from rotating but the clamping force between the hub and the wheel, so you can drill the holes where ever you want (with in reason)

Vauxhall Meriva 1.8 16v disc is almost identical to the A4 turbo but it is 4x100Martinaston wrote:I'm trying to use the Audi A4 1.8turbo discs, these have been bored out by 1mm to fit the hub.

280 diameter instead of 288
Hat height is 4mm less - closer to the back of the wheel
Little bit more material to come out of the centre bore as they are 60mm
Any good?

Its a possible cheaper option but these sit pretty much in the centre of the bearing.

i wasnt thinking about rotation of the disc, but more from a strength/safety point of view. but if you say its ok, then i'll just take your word!!Demlotcrew wrote:Stu its not the bolts that stop the disk from rotating but the clamping force between the hub and the wheel, so you can drill the holes where ever you want (with in reason)
