I can't say I bought it because it was RWD, but I think it must be part of it's attraction.
Would I buy it if it was FWD, Probably not.

i bought one because i liked the look of them, the 6 pots and rwd was a bonus for me
now i'd only want rwd, which kind of narrows down which cars to drive in the future alot!

Chose the E30 because it was affordable, had RWD and an I6 engine and I wanted both those attributes again after years of 4pot wrong-wheel-drive cars.
If they'd only been available with a 4pot, would've had something else!

I grew up riding bikes and *hate* FWD handling, so when the family grew out of our 205 it was a toss-up between an e30 and a Sierra. In retrospect, I'm glad the first one that came along was a BMW, even if it was so rusty under the shine that I only got 7 months use out of it.

if E30's were front wheel drive they would also look much different as the front wheels would not be so close to the front of the car due to the requirement for diff and driveshafts etc this would result in a longer nose.... so thus the E30 looks the way it does partly due to its rear wheel drive configuration,
but i bought an E30 cause of its looks mainly, once i learnt how to drive cars properly it was only then i appriciated the rear wheel drive set up.

That nice high centre tunnel makes for a slick interior too - like a mini-supercar layout.
If there was no large gearbox housing and driveshaft tunnel it would be flat and dull Alfa Romeo style with the gearknob sticking up 3 feet in the air.
Good point about the wheel placement. Long overhangs are gross.

Fuzzy there is a Pug 205 GTI with a DTM wide kit on it with Escort Cosworth wheels on it round were i live. I used to take the right piss out of it, untill one day i was following it down the road in my E30 and noticed it had a diff. I was like what the f**k a RWD Pug 205, never. Only later to find out that it has a Cosworth lump under the bonnet and it makes most cars look silly when they try racing itfuzzy wrote:i voted no. i was specifically looking for a rwd car with the cosworth conversion in mind.

Back on topic, yes i would own a E30 if it was FWD its the way it looks i like and if it was a FWD i would convert it to a RWD, if it can be done to an old Pug it can be done to anything.

i agree it can be done to anything but you can add another couple of grand to the conversion price to do this as well . start with rwd then go to 4wd in future if required.vinni wrote:Fuzzy there is a Pug 205 GTI with a DTM wide kit on it with Escort Cosworth wheels on it round were i live.
